SHANGHAIPeople in the U.S. and China view each other with increasing suspicion, and many others around the world see the U.S. losing its place to China as the leading economic and political power, a new public opinion poll shows.
According to a survey of around 38,000 people in 39 countries released on Thursday by the Washington-based Pew Research Center, majorities or pluralities in 23 of the nations surveyed said China either has replaced or eventually will oust the U.S. as the world's top superpower. The Chinese don't question their nation's eventual dominance, but Americans are split on the question, the poll found.

Furthermore, part of the perception that has the US losing to China is a result of how the US is perceived globally with contempt, disregard, its power and influence waning very much so, due to the awareness that the US leadership is actively undermining the country with no interest in securing its position as economic, military global leader.
Obama has been America's worst nightmare, who wants nothing less than the end of the United States as a viable entity, world power, and which the global community is all too well aware of.
If idiots like Obama continue to be elected then, yes we are in a heap of trouble. We have an entire generation of low information voters that tolerate government corruption because they don’t care. As long as the goodies keep flowing.
China would naturally be a stronger superpower than the U.S. if it ever got its act together — since its population is 3-4 times larger than ours. That’s a big “if,” though. Everyone I’ve met who has done business in China describes it as modern and advanced in many ways, and yet very highly dysfunctional.

- Lots of construction—much of it very poor quality. Building start falling apart almost as soon as they are finished. A “new” 5 year old Chinese building might look dilapidated.
- Right next to modern skyscrapers, you have pockets of grinding poverty. Just take any side street on a busy Beijing shopping district and you will think you are back in the Third world.
- Chinese have a reputation as being very orderly. Actually, the opposite is true. Just look at their chaotic traffic and the way they cut in lines. They also seem to have no qualms about wearing the same clothes multiple days in a row.
- The One Party system is a cause of a lot of corruption and discontent under the surface.
- Almost intolerable pollution
- Very strange pricing. Coffee is prohibitively expensive in China. Except for McDonalds, where is it is offered at American prices.
- The squat toilets, which almost never have toilet paper. For Westerners, this is perhaps the biggest culture shock. Nuff said.
These observations were based on my time in Northern China. Some things, like the Beijing subway system and the International airport, were very impressive and well done—but these are the exceptions. I have heard that Southern China (e.g., Shanghai) is a lot different.
This is the fourth term with no growth. That’s 16 years sports fans.
Jobs created, almost none.
That is unheard of in the United States, but both Bush and Obama accomplished it.
Interesting post.
America needs to bring back US manufacturing, and start producing once again.
Made in China is an absurd policy.
America needs tp make things once again.
Now.
We can bet it's a legitimate finding on what people's bogus opinions are. Example of bogus opinion: "China is already the world's leading economic power". Here're the GDP's (in billions of US$) that the top ten countries actually report (from here):
United States | $15,685 |
Euro Area | $13,076 |
China | $8,230 |
Japan | $5,960 |
Germany | $3,400 |
France | $2,613 |
Brazil | $2,435 |
United Kingdom | $2,432 |
Russia | $2,015 |
Italy | $2,013 |
China is not the world's leading economic power, America is.
From the bottom of the list:
“This page includes a list of countries which report GDP. This table represents our best effort to provide some useful information on GDP but is not suitable for ranking or comparison purposes. While analysing GDP please take into account that countries have different currencies, publish their data in different dates, some do not seasonal adjust their time series, some follow different accounting methodologies and some are government official but not very accurate. 7/18/2013”
In my opinion China already exports more than America, and is growing as a source of manufactured goods.
I have seen it published, that China already exports more than America, and is growing as a source of manufactured goods.
America needs to get it together, and make things again.
Seems more people prefer to have opinions on what things are than to actually check and look. Kind of like the guy backing out of a parking space without looking because in his 'opinion' nobody's there.
Yes, anyone who believes the Chinese growth or GDP numbers is a fool.
No kidding. The Globalists have be moving our industry and manufacturing, the source of our great wealth, to Red China for the past thirty years. This is their plan. But the American people let it happen so poverty, deprivation, a despotism is what we are going to get.
Those fools talked like Iraq and Afghanistan were beat up France and West Germany after WWII.
While they take over as world sucker maybe we can do what they do now, work on being able to be the worlds leader again by making $$$.
That is not just my “opinion”:
Wake UP, China! Take your place alongside the rest of civilized society, you heathens! See? That only took you guys an extra THOUSAND years! Good grief. Now, to be completely fair, and in their defense, it's not a normal human activity to, let's say, drive a car. It requires alot of rapid dual-brain processing of data, of the type that one doesn't necessarily develop from driving an ox cart or a pushing crudely improvised wheelbarrow.
Ox carts require much less brain activity to operate, as their acceleration and cornering are not about to overtax the reflexes of a stoned banana slug, never mind a member of a throwback (though advanced when viewed alongside a wasted banana slug...), deflicted Mongoloidal society like yer basic Chinee.
< sarcasm ~ OFF >
There! That's my "Archie Bunker-mentality" rant for this morning.
LMAO!!!!
;-\
Yeah, the explosive economic growth in Red China is a complete fantasy.
I believe it because of our nincomepoop, know-it-all legislators, that have one goal...Fill their own pockets
Just pay attention to those dates:
That is a difference of just 20 years.
20 years...
Thanks Baraq.
