IMHO There are issues that are not the peoples, the States OR the Feds to define. These issues could be termed "self evident truths"

Whatever ever 'gay couplings are' they are NOT marriage. That is self evident.

You can already have your personal beliefs but it doesn’t define what marriage is, I imagine that there are individuals who personally don’t accept mixed race marriages, or who consider themselves married to a dozen women at the same time, or who who considered their homosexual partner their married spouse 20 years ago, but none of that really matters.

What is legally “marriage” and is recognized as such by the government or society, does count.
