Congresswoman: Some of My Constituents 'Eat Dog Food When Their Food Stamps Run Out July 15, 2013 - 5:33 PM By Craig Millward
(CNSNews.com) -- Representative Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) urged the House of Representatives to keep Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in the Farm Bill, saying senior citizens in her district eat dog food when their food stamps run out, and adding, Im sure that somewhere in America today some poor soul is relying on dog food to take them through the month.
On the House floor on July 11, Rep. Wilson said, Mr. Speaker, SNAP, Food Stamps, however you phrase it, is fundamental to the nutritional supplement to millions of Americans -- black, white, feeble seniors, struggling mothers, disabled veterans and hungry children.
Mr. Speaker, it was reported to me that there are seniors in my district who eat dog food when their food stamps run out, she said. I was appalled and went to see for myself, and I was dumbfounded. I fixed the situation, but Im sure that somewhere in America today some poor soul is relying on dog food to take them through the month.
Representative Wilson continued to comment, Mr. Speaker, please do not hurt or destroy what is a mainstay in the lives of so many Americans who are just trying to get by. Do not remove nutrition, including the food stamp program from the farm bill. Its wrong, its punitive and its cruel.
Today, July 15, at a Bravo Supermarket in Miramar, Florida, for example, a can of Alpo Prime Cuts dog food is on sale for 89 cents. Conversely, Bravo Brand vegetables are on sale for 68 cents a can; 16 oz. packages of Goya pasta are 78 cents; and bananas are 33 cents a pound.

That struck me as hilarious (obviously)!!!
If it’s good enough for Obama it’s good enough for them.
10 pounds of rice - 5 dollars
10 pounds of beans 5 dollars
12 pounds of chicken 15 dollars
40 meals for 25 dollars. Nutritious, filling and inexpensive. Dinner for 4 at McDonalds 25 dollars.
EBT cards should only be used for certain foodstuffs. Sorry, you want steak and lobster get a job.
Hey Fred irica,
Tell my sister about it, you know how much SHE gets in
food stamps......SIXTEEN dollars a month.
Try stretching that,Beiotch.
A 40# bag of dog food costs more than a 40# bag of pinto beans at Costco, which can be had for under $20.
Rush bought his mom a can-opener for her dog food.
Dog and cat food has bone particles in it and is unsafe for human consumption. We spend how many hundreds of billions every year on just food stamps?
What exactly did you do to "fix the situation?"
Did you take them down to a local food bank, and show them ways to supplement their pantry? Did you show them how to sign up for public assistance? Did you take them to find a job? Did you buy them lunch or groceries with money from your own pocket?
There are many ways to fix the situation -- I can't believe with as many public assistance programs their are, public and private, that anyone should be starving in America.
Some of the doggie treats are really good, and they build strong teeth.
I like the Chicken that tastes like bacon.
If they choose to eat dog food, it’s their choice. Beans and rice are a perfectly good protein source. Ask anyone whose mother grew up during the Great Depression.
Dog and cat food is not cheap. It’s more expensive per pound than human food.

I could order off of McDonald’s dollar menu and eat for cheaper than dog food costs. I call BS on this.
And, IIRC, didn't one of the idiots from CO, then 'critter Patsy Schroeder took to the House Floor to denounce Limbaugh, completely oblivious to the point of the satire?
Leftists never worry about telling their lies in public because the media never call them on it.
There is no reason anyone should be eating dog food if their food stamps run out. First of all, even if they are getting food stamps, they can clip coupons. Secondly, there are food pantries where they can supplement their food supply. Some use up all their food stamps at the beginning of the month, rather than stretch them out for the entire month. Maybe they should be given bi-weekly, rather than on a monthly basis. How can they buy dog food if they can’t buy food? That doesn’t make sense to me.
Manual or electric?
With the popup tabs on cans, the can opener soon will be a thing of the past. Sad.
Dog food isn’t free.
