Seas may rise 2.3 metres per degree of global warming-report ('WaterWorld Dead Ahead' Barf Alert!!)

BERLIN, July 15 | Mon Jul 15, 2013 10:22am EDT

(Reuters) - Sea levels could rise by 2.3 metres for each degree Celsius that global temperatures increase and they will remain high for centuries to come, according to a new study by the leading climate research institute, released on Monday.

Anders Levermann said his study for the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research was the first to examine evidence from climate history and combine it with computer simulations of contributing factors to long-term sea-level increases: thermal expansion of oceans, the melting of mountain glaciers and the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.

Scientists say global warming is responsible for the melting ice. A U.N. panel of scientists, the IPCC, says heat-trapping gases from burning fossil fuels are nudging up temperatures. A small number of scientists dismiss human-influenced global warming, arguing natural climate fluctuations are responsible.

Norm, I don't want you upset by this projected 7' rise in sea levels. There's always a place for you in Livermore Falls. Bring the family.

In fact, we look forward to owning exclusive beachfront property soon. Bring a cooler, a blanket, and a colorful umbrella.

High School physics teaches that water expands in volume when freezing and ice contracts in volume when melting.

I think they forgot to code the above fact into their computer models.

We ain't shoppin' for no trouble here. So if you're planning on coming over, sneak in at night and tell us what outrage you have committed.

Why not make it 2.3 kilometers?

Or 2300 kilometers?

Or 75 billion miles as long as they are making stuff up?

Who is causing the global warming now?

Puff the magic dragon?

Beanie?

Cecil?

Fred Flintstone?

They REALY need to work on their fiction writing skills.

2.3 meters is not a very exciting lie...

Didn’t the ‘average global temperature (whatever that is) rise by a couple of degrees over the last century? Where is the rise in sea levels that resulted from that increase?

Correct! They may also rise by 200 feet. However, neither case is likely.

Maybe they will.

But if there are 0 degrees of warming, that means 0 metres of rise.

“Since measurements began in 1979 antarctic sea ice has continued to expand, contrary to what the news media would have you believe. We bring this information to you month after month and still there is no sign of the main stream media picking up on the story. They continue to discuss the relatively small areas of the Western Antarctic Peninsula that are melting due to changes in ocean currents”

The odds are roughly the same that man-made global warming is real.

"Some scientific studies have projected sea level rise of up to 2 metres by 2100, a figure that would swamp large tracts of land from Bangladesh to Florida."

Conveniently, none of the scientists making this prediction will be alive to see it.

Tell you what, guys. Make a prediction for what will happen within 5 years so we can test your hypothesis. Stop with the alarmist garbage.

There are a lot of ancient cities under water. Had they stopped using carbon based energy, they would still be under water. Sea levels haven’t risen significantly for the past century, and they aren’t likely to rise significantly for the next century. That’s my prediction based upon my science, and I bet it proves out better than the fear mongering, warming fanatics’ dire predictions of catastrophic destruction due to anthropogenic global warming.

Of course it IS the internet but the figure I found
for the total sq.Ft. of the world’s oceans is
3,608,687,080,000,000 square feet X 7 is a lot of
water, where is it to come from? I have read that
if all the polar and glacier ice melted it would
raise the sea level 200 ft but some how that just
doesn’t seem possible.

Perhaps we should be building a retaining wall
around NYC. Come to think of it that might not
be a bad idea in any event!!

The oceans are not, and could not, warm at depth -- that particularly pernicious LIE is the basis for that "thermal expansion of the oceans" LIE.

.... convert from British metres to American meters?

Can't be done. American Meters take quarters. British Meters take shillings.

But as a rule of thumb, 2.3 meters = +/- 1.65 Rooneys.
