Is this for real? Some lib brought this up on Twitter in their arguments over Zimmerman. This can't be the whole story, 20 years? Nobody shot, nobody killed, order of protection, no criminal record...20 years? What?

This one says she fired a warning shot - one - into a wall

This seems very badly summarized in the new article, and it makes you wonder if it is intentional to stir up trouble that a black woman gets 20 years for self-defense.

In fact, she voluntarily went to the guy’s house and stayed the night. The they argued and although the guy was a jerk and blocked her into a bathroom, it looks like she was somewhat on the offense too. She went outside, could have left, got her gum, went back in and tried to shoot the guy, MISSED, gets arrested and gets a restraining order against HER, then later after comes back AGAIN and causes trouble and fires the warning shot. Both times children were there and the second time she could have hit them.

(That’s just from a quick scan of one document — link below — that someone posted.)

I think things in the US are often over-criminalized and over-punished, and 20 years sounds ridiculous and that is why a lot of these “zero tolerance” laws and “three strikes” laws are not right. We need to go back to common sense punishments!

However, the clearly seems deserving of some type of penalty for her actions, which really were not self-defense.

Maybe he ought to get a penalty too. Can’t tell.

Leftist Femanazi propaganda.

It was attempted second degree murder with two children in the line of fire.

While there’s a huge difference between the Zimmerman and Alexander cases (i.e. no threat from the husband, let alone a physical altercation initiated by him), 20 years seems a little harsh for just a shot fired that wasn’t aimed at the victim. Several months in prison with time off for good behavior seems more appropriate.

I doubt there’s a crime in Florida called “Felonious firing of warning shots”. My guess is she missed her ex and her lawyer suggested they were just warning shots.

Is there more to this story? Where were the “warning” shots fired? Why was it called attempted murder? If she really was fending off an abusive husband, why wouldn’t she be able to defend herself? We are missing information.

20 years for this is an outrage of justice - it’s TEN TIMES what would be reasonable, and the effective destruction of this woman’s life.

It’s an abomination.

What the hell is wrong with Florida?

First, the story is not today. The date was “May 12, 2012, 10:32 AM”

And yes, it is “real”. There was a court case, apparently with just a judge, and the judge rejected the claim of self-defense, for what appeared to be three reasons:

first, there was no physical sign of danger — she was not assaulted in any way.

second, she left the house, went into the garage, and got her gun out of the car, and then went back into the house to confront the guy. The judge ruled that this meant she was not in imminent danger, since she could have left.

Third, she claimed to fire a warning shot, although the husband said she shot at him and the kids and he ran out.

But if she was really firing a warning shot, that also indicates a lack of imminent danger. If you just want the guy to know you have a gun, you can show it to him. And if you are shooting at him because you feel like he is about to attack you, you don’t fire a warning shot into the air, you shoot him.

Anyway, it was the same prosecutor in both cases. The woman needed a better attorney. And to be already carrying her weapon.

Because if GZ had gotten away from TM after the beating, and run back to his car, and grabbed his gun from the glove box, and then gone back to find TM and shot him, he’d be in prison now. The only reason he got off is that he was being beaten by TM and he had the gun already.

The story leaves out a LOT of the details. See http://www.scribd.com/doc/89763383/States-Motion-in-Opposition-of-Defendants-Motion-for-Immunity

Yes, she had a protective order but she went to HIS house. After an argument she went to her car, DID NOT LEAVE, instead retrieved her gun and shot AT him AND their two sons. While on bail she attacked him again.

Just a couple of omissions.

Her "self defense" claim proved to be without merit once it was determined that she had: (1) showed up at the ex-husband's house uninvited; (2) left after being ordered out of the house; and (3) returned with a gun.

Item (3) renders any self-defense claim inoperative in that type of scenario under Florida law. If you walk away from a dangerous situation and then return armed, you are no longer a "victim" and cannot claim that you are defending yourself.

This is the left and MSM trying to gen up more racial animus.

Here you have a black woman who they say did nothing more than shoot into a wall, as a warning, and she gets 20 years. And yet George Zimmerman who is not black, kills a black man using the same defense (they say) and he goes free.

When what actually happened in this 2-3 year old story is that this woman voluntarily went to the guy’s house and stayed the night. They ended up arguing, and although the guy treated her badly and physically blocked her getting to the bathroom, she was no angel.

She ultimately went outside, and could have left, but instead, she got her gun, went back in and tried to shoot the guy. Well, she missed and gets arrested and the guy then gets a restraining order against her.

If I understand this correctly, she then comes back later and starts more arguing. Then she goes out and gets a gun once again, fires what she calls a warning shot and ends up in jail and tried for it.

Both times when she shot, there were children in the house, and so they were in danger from her firing the gun.

But make no mistake, this is the MSM and the left trying to dig up old stories to make the Zimmerman verdict look back and gen up racial violence.

The black Congresswoman from Orlando was really upset over this case as Corey overreached in her prosecutions of this black woman.

But Corey met with her and put her heart to rest telling her that she will make it right by overcharging some white man for getting beat up by a black thug and that will balance things out.

to escape a brutal beating by her husband, against whom she had already taken out a protective order. \

She could have killed him dead and walked free.
