Back in the day I had occasion to fly in and about on different African airlines.
One I can't remember the name (maybe Air Cong)they had Russian Transports that were half cargo and the rest passengers flown by Russians.
When they found out I was a pilot they invited me on up to the cockpit. I was amazed to see that more than half the instruments were missing. I never flew in anything less that VFR after that and then well plastered

I’ve flown locals in Africa but only as a last resort and then only the ones vetted by the air safety outfit we hired to manage our helicopter contracts. Even at that, you don’t want to know what goes on. I’ve read the audit reports.
