Warning: the video below features profanity and is not safe to watch at work.

More protestors have settled on the oft-debated mining site in northern Wisconsin, and they aren't happy about the progress being made there. In a recently released, profanity-laden video, a group of 6-8 anti-mining activists hurl threats, profanities, and insults at a group working for Gogebic Taconite while they try to work.

Their comments are upsetting. They tell the miners that they'll "f***ing destroy" them. They warn that more protesters are coming and that the workers won't "get anything done" once they've all joined forces

What if some miners when to an Econut Organization and started threatening them and spoiling their delusions by telling them that fracking is not harmful and man made Climate Change is a hoax?

“How many were arrested?”

None, of course. The only protestors subject to arrest in the United States are people praying quietly across the street from a Planned Parenthood clinic.

If you went to their work site

Time for the miners to release their pet skunks so the protesters can have a natural experience.

Gogebic had hired a private security firm to protect property and employees from these monkey-apes but had to remove them because the security firm was not licensed to operate in Wisconsin. How long do you think it will take to get the licenses and permits approved? Decades?

How much damage to person and property can the monkey-apes cause in that amount of time without any worries?

How long before Gogebic gives up on the whole thing?

Is this the long-proposed Ladysmith/Rusk County mine, or is that in operation and this a different site?
(I departed my native state a quarter century ago, plus).

Gogebic Taconite, LLC, potential mining project Location: Iron and Ashland counties

The Gogebic Iron Range is an 80-mile long belt of distinctive Precambrian bedrock in northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It stretches east to west, roughly from Lake Gogebic in Michigan to Lake Namekagon in Wisconsin.

The Penokee/Gogebic Deposit generally refers to a 21-mile long segment of the Gogebic Iron Range between the community of Upson and Mineral Lake in Wisconsin. The deposit contains 20-30 percent iron in the form of magnetite. Because the iron ore is of lower grade than the natural hematitic ores mined previously in northern Wisconsin, the ore must be concentrated and processed into taconite pellets prior to shipping to a steel mill.

Gogebic Taconite, LLC, application process

Most of the surface and mineral rights for the land containing the deposit are currently owned by the LaPointe Iron Company and RGGS Land & Minerals, Ltd., which have optioned potential development of the deposit to Gogebic Taconite, LLC.

Gogebic is currently considering development along a four-mile stretch east of the community of Mellen. The area of interest straddles the boundary between Iron and Ashland counties and lies between Tyler Forks River to the east and Ballou Creek to the west.

It would sure be a shame if the miners got a group together -- informally, of course -- and helped the protesters to fall down the stairs. Repeatedly.

Seriously, why would anyone allow these bong-hugging bozos to berate them like that?

Follow Up

Katie Kloth, the Stevens Point woman who was charged last month by Iron County authorities with robbery and criminal damage to property in connection with a protest against the proposed Gogebic Taconite iron mine, has spoken out on her actions.

It’s on a web site, Penokee Defenders. A legal defense fund has also been created on her behalf.

Kloth is critical of a comment from a Gogebic official who said that activities on June 11 by the protesters, which included damage to mining equipment and theft of a cell phone and camera, amounted to eco-terrorism.

Says Kloth, who also goes by the name, “Krow”:

“Those who fight against the destruction of the water, land, plants, and human and non-human animals of the Penokee Hills and Bad River Watershed are not ‘terrorists.’ The only terrorists are those who plot to blow up the hills with ammonium nitrate and use the power of the state’s policing apparatus to repress and send fear and division through the communities that oppose them. Gogebic Taconite (GTAC) and Chris Cline have millions of dollars and the support of the state to destroy the Penokees.”

Thanks UB355.

Of course, the “protesters” have to sleep sometime, and the next morning, well, maybe not as many show up. And this might go on for a couple of weeks, until even the most brain-dead among them realize they’re no longer on carte blanche...

Ok, Katie. You want lawlessness? You want to claim that your moral conceit gives you license to indulge any self-righteous fantasies you have about saving the earth and protecting the "water, land, plants, ..."? Have it your way.

That gives the miners and the landowners permission to treat you exactly the same way, to take any steps necessary to protect their rights and their property. And since there are a lot more of them than there are of you, you've lost this war before it even began.

You smug, moralizing, situationalist drama queen. Go hug a wolverine.

Probably some or many of these nuts were from the local Indian tribe which is against the mine because they say it will poison the water ... this is the same tribe which runs a mostly empty casino and returns none of the money generated to the community ... this is the same tribe which has the worst water treatment plant in the US, returning raw sewage into Lake Superior ...
