I thought the idea of ambassadors was to promote beneficial relationships between two countries.

I thought the idea of ambassadors was to promote beneficial relationships between two countries.Wouldn't that be nice. It's more about rewarding cronies.

I thought the idea of ambassadors was to promote beneficial relationships between two countries.Who cares? The US is far and away the Dominican Republic's largest trading partner. In fact, 75% of the DR's trading revenues come from trade with the United States. Every major industry, from tourism, to sugar, to mining, to manufacturing is dominated by US firms and by trade with the US. The DR will accept whatever Ambassador the US sends it. Not exactly a relationship between equals here...

The Dominicans share an island with Haiti. Without US trade and investment, look how great things could be!
