New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently had gastric bypass surgery to help him lose weight.
The American Medical Associations decision to call obesity a disease instead of a medical condition could make it harder to discriminate against fat employees, The Wall Street Journal Law Blog reports.
Now that obesity is a disease, people with body mass indexes of more than 30 are almost certainly covered under The Americans with Disabilities Act, attorney Jon Hyman told the Law Blog.
That 1990 law says employers have to provide disabled workers with reasonable accommodations to help them do their jobs. It also makes it illegal for employers to fire workers for being disabled.
Conventional wisdom has been that normal, run-of-the-mill obesity, unlinked to an underlying medical condition such as diabetes, is not a disability protected from discrimination by the Americans with Disabilities Act, Hyman has written on his blog. Chris Christie can`t be fired ?????
not just for being fat, apparently.
Just make him pay extra rent for the several moons orbiting him and he may start slimming down on his own.
I am very concerned about 2nd hand fat. we need to pass a no fat in public law !
The fat f’ef hasn’t got the willpower to lose weight
I don’t know about Chris Christie, but if I weren’t married I’d date her. Ever been out with a bigger girl?
Yes. It went well.
Does anyone know anyone who was fired simply for being fat? I have seen a lot of fat people (and average and thin ones) fired, but every one of them was fired for cause such as being in competent, violating company policy, theft, etc.
My ex-wife had an employee who’d come in late, take long lunches, leave early and not work very hard. She kept meaning to talk to her and begin the process of firing her but put it off and put it off. One day, the employee came in and announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. They couldn’t fire her until she was certified to be in remission. PERIOD.
