Schumer-Rubio gives pandering a bad name
Powerline ^ | 7/9/13 | Paul Mirengoff

Posted on 07/09/2013 9:34:50 AM PDT by Lakeshark

A new poll undermines the conventional wisdom, relentlessly peddled by some Republican establishment types, that Republicans need to embrace Schumer-Rubio style amnesty in order to make headway with Hispanic voters. The poll, conducted by Republican pollster John McLaughlin, finds that, by a margin of 60 percent to 34 percent, registered Hispanic voters support granting legal status to illegal immigrants only when the goal of stopping 90 percent of future illegal immigration is reached.

The Schumer-Rubio legislation grants legal status to illegal immigrants without regard to any metric of success in preventing illegal immigration. Indeed, as Andrew Stiles points out, the position favored by a strong majority of Hispanic voters is more hawkish than the one put forward by Senator Cornyn, but rejected by the Gang of Eight and its adherents. Cornyn’s amendment would have required a 90 percent border-apprehension rate before illegal immigrants, having already been granted legal status under the legislation, could apply for a green card.

The poll also found that Hispanic voters oppose allowing illegal immigrants to obtain federal benefits, including Obamacare benefits, “while they are going through the legalization process and before the 90% goal is reached.” Here, the split was 56-40.

In addition, the poll explodes the notion that immigration is an overridingly important issue for Hispanic voters. For them, the issue ranked last in importance behind the economy, education, and health care.

Another good article destroying the "Hispanics won't like us until we give them amnesty" bunch. Copy and paste to your rep and the House leadership.

I look at associating with Schumer as only slightly less heinous than being caught molesting small children.

After years of close observation I am convinced Hispanics, Mexican Americans where I live at, are not stupid, corrupt, or easily duped. They have families and children, jobs and futures, homes and property, and they want the best for their families. If conservatives can’t work with that without pimping amnesty for the Democrats, something needs rethinking.

That's an observation I share. The best way to their loyalty is not pandering to some racial stereotype, rather present what would make their lives, their families, their paycheck better. The idea that you have to act like a Balkanized democrat is insulting.

The problem is, Republicans have no one in the so-called leadership who is out there making this case loud and clear, or making the case on any of the current issues and scandals that could be so easily made by anyone with fair commucative skills, and most of all, with the intent to make the conservative case of all these issues.

With any luck, we will never hear the name of Rubio again after the next election.

Of course by them it will be too late, he will have gotten and spent his 30 pieces of silver.

Watch how wealthy Rubio, Ryan et al, become over the next few years.

The problem is, Republicans have no one in the so-called leadership who is out there making this case loud and clear...

The GOP has no one in the leadership who can articulate any benefit to free enterprise, the rule of law, sanctity of contracts, security of borders or any of the principles enunciated in the Declaration or the Constitution. They are not familiar with them, they do not believe them, they do not understand them. To the GOP leadership it is a foreign language. We cannot expect them [and most of us don't] to be able to argue a case in a language they cannot speak.

Anyone that is for Amnesty is for a communist Coup of the United States.

Do these morons who vote for democrats realize that 30 million amnestied illegals and their family back home (50 million more) will vote in democrats/socialism to turn the USA into a socialist/communist state?

Hey morons, immigrants , democrats and anyone for this Amnesty bill: communism is no fun and results in extreme poverty for 99% of the population and people are virtual slaves in a dictatorship. think N. Korea or Cuba . that is what you immigrants are doing to America.

what happened to Venezuela will happen 100 times worse here. it’s because democrats are hard core communists, all of them are(pelosi, Reid,Obama et al). they are importing untold millions of democrat voters that will allow them to rule with an iron fist. so 3rd world scum that invade the U.S.A looking to make more money will enable the democrats to turn the USA into a WORSE place than they left.

Rubio, Ryan ,Democrats, Bush? do you realize that? I know democrats want that as that is their goal to advance progressive policies and install a socialist/communist state.

do you Bush, democrats,Ryan , rubio realize that you are for communism?

Anyone that is for Amnesty is for a communist Coup of the United States

Not sure that associating with Schumer is "less heinous than molesting small children." Remember, when in the House of Representatives, it was Schumer who sought to defend and justify the Janet Reno led attack at Waco that led to small children being burned alive. He is a loathsome spokesman for things that are truly evil. Senator Rubio needs to wake up.

Frankly, I had thought Rubio was going to get off being aboard with those undermining the America that took his family in. I dealt with him, in particular in Whither American Conservatives. He has been so articulate on some issues; so utterly indefensible on this one. It is very very sad, as we need all the who are not total Leftists to wake up, if we are going to save our future.
