Win for defense: Jury to hear Martin's pot use

Judge Debra Nelson ruled Monday that jurors in the George Zimmerman trial will be allowed to hear about marijuana found in Trayvon Martin’s system the night he was fatally shot.

Prosecutors argued the amount was so minimal that “we just don’t know” what effect it had on Martin. They also accused the defense of trying to "backdoor some very negative character evidence” into the trial.

But the defense said the amount found in Martin’s system would have had an impact on his judgment that night and is therefore relevant to the case.

The judge ruled she would allow the testimony about Martin’s toxicology results in front of the jury and told the prosecutors they would have their chance to cross-examine the defense’s witness and present rebuttal witnesses of its own.....

I don't think even that will help. Those poor female jurors know what'll happen if they don't convict Mr. Zimmerman.

“very negative”, huh, according to the prosecution? That’s interesting that they would admit to seeing it that way.

Will the Marsupial Magistrate allow the jury to hear about the liver changes from Trayvon Martin’s abuse of “Purple Drank”?

I would think that pot would mellow him out. Now if they found any cocaine, meth, PCP, bath salts, etc. that would be a different story.

And yes, I think he’ll be convicted, the prosecution will tug on their heartstrings about this poor widdle boy and his grieving mom.

The best we can hope for is a hung jury.

no the THC makes a person more paranoid and on top of that you have the girlfriend goading him on. The mellow is just a urban myth and not founded in real science.

I disagree that there will be riots if he is acquitted, but it is an entertaining thought for the reasons below.

Its not 1992 where a GOP POTUS is running for re-election.
Riots would reflect very poorly on Dems and Obama. He cant let that happen.

Instead expect peaceful marches and protests trying to revive the 1960s civil rights era, they can merge it with that Voting Rights Act decision.
"They take away our vote and our babies lives because of the color of our skin. We shall overcome.."

And expect Holder to prosecute Zimmerman on some Federal charges, hate crime or something. That is the way Dems do business.

Yes, it’s an all woman jury. Why? The sympathy factor. He’s just a little black kid, not a 17 year old, 180 lb. hunk with tatoos all over his faith.

The pot is interesting only because it shows Trayvon was a lawbreaker, but so are all of us with so many laws.

It doesn't increase aggression, but does increase paranoia. It's sort of a non-issue regarding the actual confrontation.

Overall, the state failed miserably in proving its case for murder. So much so, nobody's even going to bother to riot.

RE :”dems politicians want this case to go away.”

Obama said his son would be just like Trayvon, which means he wishes he has a Trayvon as a son.

The girlfriend who cant read was priceless. She brings up visions of McDs, Obama-phones and different guy's babies, all on food stamps.

Oh I know. I’m just wondering, since this is being admitted, if the pros is going to try to argue that smoking pot would have “mellowed him” out, or incapacitated him in such a way that he wouldn’t have been threatening. Are they only admitting the marijuana use? Or are there other drugs in play that could be mentioned?

Mind you, not that I believe that meme, I just wonder if they’re going to try to spin it that way. (I’ve had the displeasure to be acquainted with some young pot smokers, and they were NOT all mellow and hippy-ish)

It is also people thinking of white, middle class suburban kids - not wannabe urban gangbangers.

I agree. Older pot smokers I’ve seen seemed to mellow out, but I remember one guy in high school who got really violent and wanted to fight people. I imagine it must be like alcohol and effects everyone differently.
