From corporate boardrooms to the headquarters of the citys Democratic political campaigns, phone lines lighted up and strategy sessions were organized on Monday with a single mission in mind: stopping Eliot Spitzer.
The surprise decision by former Governor Spitzer to run for citywide office startled and galvanized the citys political establishment, which worried aloud about handing the TV-savvy and self-financed candidate a new megaphone.
In candid conversations, some of the leaders expressed acute regret over their failure to swiftly undercut the mayoral campaign of former Representative Anthony D. Weiner, another scandal-scarred candidate for citywide office, and said they would not make the same mistake twice.
Behind the scenes, they began to lay out a blueprint for undermining Mr. Spitzers bid for comptroller, the citys third-highest elected office, and for propping up his lesser-known Democratic rival, Scott M. Stringer, the Manhattan borough president.
They quickly zeroed in on what they claimed were Mr. Spitzers vulnerabilities: an out-of-control ego; his lawbreaking patronization of prostitutes, which led to his resignation as governor in 2008; and his combative, go-it-alone style.

The Spitzer political re-incarnation is not working out very well with the political establishment seeing him as lethally damaged, the New York Times using unusually harsh terms of his Democratic colleagues wanting him to remain buried, metaphorically speaking, of course.
Spitzer has many issues to deal with about himself, most of which is psychological, seemingly mentally imbalanced. Surely, a megalomaniac like himself, lusting after power having fallen so mightily from atop the political perch he once occupied will not give up the opportunity to regain some of what he once had very easily. He is going to run and nothing will stop him from his relentless drive to re-enter the local political realm he once was the master of.
I don't give Spitzer much chance because he's got that wild, frenetic look in his eye reminiscent of some serial killer that no one wants to have at the controls.
Republicans, Conservatives can revel in the Wiener, Spitzer freak show for as long as it lasts, hopefully for quite some time.
Comptroller of the City of New York...a perfect position for one trying to fund regular visits to ladies of easy virtue.
“The establishment” has a point. Some things should stay covered up, and Weiner is one of them.
It appears as though the theme for the upcoming New Yawk elections is going to be, “Weiners, Johns and Hookers”. Sounds about right.
Spitzer’s campaign slogans.......
THE WORKING GIRL’S CANDIDATE
A HOOKER ON EVERY STREET CORNER
Candidate Number 9
WeinerSpitzer is a NY delicacy, as I hear it.

Maybe, though I have a hunch the serial killer look may just appeal to New Yorkers.
