It was too little too late for conservation groups that wanted the Bel Air, Maryland, Kiwanis Club to cancel its annual Fourth of July turtle derby last Thursday.
According to The Baltimore Sun, the Arizona-based Center for Biological Diversity sent a letter on Friday, June 28, requesting the event be canceled because it posed a threat to struggling native turtle populations and a health hazard to the children handling the animals. The problem, according to the Centers Reptile and Amphibian Staff Attorney, is a recent rise in ranavirus, which, according to the National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC), has caused die-offs in over 25 states, involving more than 20 species of turtles and amphibians...

YEAH!
Slow TF down!"
(Although, we had those little turtles, until mom found out they could carry salmonella....)
Nothing more that partisan politics, an idiot lefty group staffed with white liberals can only go after non-lefty groups. Mike Vick (well paid POS)could run a dog versus cock fight extravaganza in the same place as the turtle race and these idiot evil white lefties wouldn’t say boo about it.
The CBD is nothing more than a bunch of lawyers scamming off the sensitivities of low information voters. They use the laws of the US to gain nothing but money. The lowest type of vermin, aka “lawyers”.

...Woman drowned trying to rescue turtle from Lake Lanier...
The Department of Natural Resources says a woman who drowned in Lake Lanier over the weekend was trying to rescue a turtle from the water at her home.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriffs Office, Marines Dillon, lost her balance and fell into the water from the dock of her Hope Road home.
Her husband tried to rescue her, but neither knew how to swim. Dillon, 59, was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital.
“...and the cry of the turtle was heard throughout
the land...”
Extra points if you know who said that.
It’s biblical.
(I hope you are doing well)
Well sir you are correct.
Should have looked it up but it stands to reason.
I had only seen it in Washinton Irving’s History of
New York. My sister just gave me a copy from 1890.
Also noted he used the first line, “ It was a dark
and stormy night...” wonder who was first, him or
Bulwar-lytton?
And even more points if you can explain what the turtle is.
hint: no turtle has vocal cords
... two turtle doves ...
... and a partridge in a pear tree ...
When I was little, a kid down the street stole one of my turtles by smuggling it out in his mouth.
No one died. I guess turtles were healthier back then.
Later reports said that the turtle also drowned because it didn't know how to swim, either.
I don’t think salmonella is a problem with the box turtles, from what I’ve read it’s the turtles that live in water that carry salmonella.
Yes, an ATTORNEY presented them with the request to desist, not a biologist or virologist or zoologist or veterinarian. Helps to show what the CBD is all about.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
As another poster noted, had this been some lefty group sponsoring the race, the leftists would have not said a word.
