Should have looked it up but it stands to reason.
I had only seen it in Washinton Irving’s History of
New York. My sister just gave me a copy from 1890.
Also noted he used the first line, “ It was a dark
and stormy night...” wonder who was first, him or
Bulwar-lytton?
