Update: Here are the denials. It’s unclear to me whether my sources know something Deutsch doesn’t or were basing their opinion on his reporting. I will update for accuracy as it goes on.
Sources close to JHPolitics are confirming what was broken by Willie Deutsch of Bearing Drift. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is, if reports are to be believed, resigning from office over pending corruption charges. Willie’s take:
The man who pushed out the RPV chairman over trumped up corruption charges while running for governor is currently in the middle of finalizing a plea agreement which includes his resignation as governor. More to come soon.

Multiple more sources confirming plea agreement is definitely being finalized.
I have previously reported on the ethical lapses that have plagued McDonnell. Up until now, it’s been unconfirmed whether the various “gifts” the McDonnell family received amounted to legal trouble. Obviously, they have. Say goodbye to a tax-hiking Governor who once had presidential ambitions.
The one winner? Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, who will (briefly) be able to fulfill his lifelong dream as serving as the Governor of Virginia.

Smells like dirty tricks to me. Bolling was ticked off that Cuccinelli got the GOP nomination for governor instead of him, and is capable of doing and saying anything out of a sense of vindictive payback.

Reminds me of the Johnny Carson movie I watched this week where a member of Jay Leno’s team placed a news article in the paper saying Leno was going to take over the Tonight show. It was not true but it did start the ball rolling for Carson to leave.
I presume it is “dirty tricks”, but that McDonnell also gave them the opening with stupid ethical lapses.
Could this be the reason why he is behind the idea of restoring voting rights for felons?

Bearing Drift is the actual source of the original story. They are a conservative site. It may turn out to be untrue, but I doubt McAulliff and Clinton are involved. And just because the McDonnell side is currently denying it doesn’t mean it is so either.

Really disappointed in him as I had such high hopes in the beginning.
Should have known when he turned down my kid for a job and gave it to the kid whose parents donated more money to the campaign...meh.
Weiner and Spitzer weren’t caught accepting gifts from contractors and, as far as I know, aren’t under suspicion of contract fraud. What McDonnell is being accused of is much more serious. If you want to keep the carpetbagger Clinton crony out of office, we need to throw this piece of scum under the bus and distance ourselves now. Defending him isn’t going to do any good other than drag this out through the election.
