Good evening, Connie!

*HUGS*

I'm off until Monday - a ton of things to do around the house. We'll sneak in some steaks on the Grill sometime, depending om John-Man's work schedule. I'm not going to the fireworks this year, but there are a few things I will do to commemorate this essential Day in our History.

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

SEATTLE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

WEDNESDAY, JULY 3

8 PM Pacific (11 PM Eastern)

Listen live on-line here at KING-FM/98.1 website.

Jolivet: Heptade

Jens Lindemann, trumpet
Michael Werner, percussion

When you schedule an instrumentalist whose instrument rarely shows up in the chamber music repertory, the Artistic Director has to come up with enough material to keep the musician occupied for the entire week. I imagine Jimmy Ehnes had to ask German trumpeter Jens Lindemann for a list of possible pieces. We heard two of them before, and tonight is the Jolivet piece for trumpet and percussion. Michael Werner holds the principal percussion chair with the Seattle Sympony.

Borodin: Piano Quintet in C minor

Andrew Armstrong, piano
James Ehnes, violin
Jesse Mills, violin
Cynthia Phelps, viola
Julie Albers, cello

Jesse Mills is new to the Festival. Cynthia Phelps is principal viola with the New York Philharmonic, and she plays this huge 17 inch viola. I once told her I would hate to meet that viola in a dark alley. She is married to cellist Ronald Thomas who plays in the next piece. Cynthia and Ron met at the first Festival in 1982 and married shortly thereafter. They have a passel of musicians coming up in their North Jersey home.

Dvorak: Piano Quintet in A, Op. 81

Inon Barnaton, piano
Augustin Hadelich, violin
Ida Levin, violin
Rebecca Albers, viola
Ronald Thomas, cello

When people see Augustin Hadelich from a distance, they wonder if he is wearing makeup. Close up, you can see the damage done by the agricultural fire in Germany that disfigured his face. They weren’t sure he would live. But he survived, and he’s one of the most promising young violinists in the game today. Ron Thomas is a perennial at the Festival, and his suggestions for pieces to program are among the best around.
