Well in fact they didn't do either in these decisions. The catholic majority (almost monopoly) said anybody that so much as even tried to defend marriage between one man and one woman with ballot measures and even Democrat sponsored and signed laws are "MEAN!" (read Scalia's comments/opinions)

Here in CA in June of 1998 the liberals, unionistas and Demonicrats went nuts with a bumpersticker that simply said "MEAN PEOPLE SUCK!" How's that for "droll?"

No, I don’t think he’s a gay justice.

But I do think that he’s a hippie libertarian. Hippie because he looks like one - the kind of guy that Customs searches for drugs, and has a 90% success rates. Libertarian because he’s unable to understand that sometimes the state (federal government, in this case) has to take actions that are painful to some, but are absolutely necessary to assure survival of the state. He may have a big smirk of pride on his face today, but his kids, and especially grandkids, will HATE HIM for this move.
