Statement by Secretary Hagel on DOMA Ruling
U.S. Department of Defense ^ | 6/26/2013 | Chuck Hagel

Posted on 06/26/2013 2:15:49 PM PDT by Wayne07

The Department of Defense welcomes the Supreme Court's decision today on the Defense of Marriage Act. The department will immediately begin the process of implementing the Supreme Court's decision in consultation with the Department of Justice and other executive branch agencies. The Department of Defense intends to make the same benefits available to all military spouses -- regardless of sexual orientation -- as soon as possible. That is now the law and it is the right thing to do.

Every person who serves our nation in uniform stepped forward with courage and commitment. All that matters is their patriotism, their willingness to serve their country, and their qualifications to do so. Today's ruling helps ensure that all men and women who serve this country can be treated fairly and equally, with the full dignity and respect they so richly deserve.

To me, the better approach would to have been to get Gub'ment away from giving goodies based on marital status.

Once you go down that road then the Government has power over the issue.

Once they get the power over something they will never let it go.

In the coming years watch as the Government starts taking over Churches piece by piece in the name of equal protection and all because they are granted "Tax Exempt" status.

Ok I'll say it again. The 2008 election had consequences. Some sat it out because McCain “wasn't conservative enough”

Today is another result. So are Supreme Court appointments, Obamacare; etc .

I think you make some good points there. As for the latter, I agree there too.

Just wait until we really get into a scrape and realize that virtually every company and field grade officer worth anything has left the service.

"As for the latter, I agree there too."

I figure soon it will be mandated that Churches cannot dismiss Clergy based on Sexual Orientation via "equal protection under the law" as their validation for meddling.

You pray for liberals? Seriously. Out of respect to our Lord during prayer time, at least I won’t have the hypocrisy to fake my hatred for these scumbags.

Hagel is a slob. And I am being unkind to slobs calling him one.

Yes I pray for them. Not because I want to but because if I don’t I’ll be so full of rage and anger I will be a mess!

...or the thread where the National Cathedral was ringing its bells to celebrate the condoning of gay marriage by the Supreme Court.

That one really is scary.

When our troops are nothing but fags, Muslims and gang members, Democrats better hope we don’t have to go to war.

Actually I look forward to the day when our sissified, faggot-loving, women in front line combat, muzzies & ghetto bangers all get their asses handed to them by Russia or China. This whole bunch of faggots, sissies & feminists will wilt at the first sign of hard-core Russian troops just beating the sh_t out of our affirmative action sissies. I don't think the Russkies or Chinese really worry too much about rules of engagement, like our sissy commanders do.

At that time, the real conservatives & patriots of America will likely need to step forward and fight with a fury out of sheer desperation to win our country back & our freedom. And who knows how that will turn out, but at least we will go down fighting!

Drop that government and marriage thing, all government has always been a part of marriage.

Marriage was never just whatever individuals said it was at their whim.

I'm confused. The SCOTUS did NOT "legalize" gay marriage.

It invalidated DOMA. So if a gay couple got "married" in a state that allows for such, they get the bennies. But what about gays from states that do NOT recognize such unions?

Did I miss where the military legalized gay marriage everywhere?

Does the military perform such marriages?

In say, Afghanistan? Or Saudi Arabia?

I'm dizzy from trying to figure out just what Hagel is saying or implementing.
