All I know is that whenever I see a black or female doctor, lawyer, cop or fireman I think....”qualified or affirmative action?”.

At the heart of the Equal Protection Clause is "the principle that the government must treat citizens as individuals and not as members of racial, ethnic, or religious groups," wrote Thomas. "It is for this reason that we must subject all racial classifications to the strictest of scrutiny." I recall that being the accepted theory of the civil rights movement.
Don't know why it's controversial.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. -

Yep. Been through all that when my kids applied to college over the years. One of my daughters was a National Merit Scholar with basically a 4.0 average from a top high school, and just a few points short of 1600 on her combined SATs.
She was admitted everywhere she applied, but she had a tough time getting any scholarships. But in the process of visiting various campuses, she witnessed minority students being flown in and offered full scholarships for four years.
She ended up going to UNH, because they offered her the best scholarship deal, but had to turn down Dartmouth and Williams because they wouldn’t give her any money. Fortunately, that worked out well for her in her chosen double major.
I told some of my younger kids that they should have pretended they were illegal aliens when they applied.

We'd better go on the offensive on this and pronto! If we don't, we're going to become the new generation of Lester Maddox and Bull Connor rolled up into one Klansman's robe.
The truth is just as Clarence Thomas expressed it: voting rights regulation by the federal government is nothing more than politically correct bigotry, and the Supreme Court was right in striking it down. No apologies, no surrender.
Don't like it? Tough.

Justice Thomas is right, of course. The comparison is right on target. This kind of thing is why the lefties could not tolerate the idea of having Justice Thomas on the Court. In their world, blacks have no right to think like this.
