Well you at least got to give them credit for being logical. The idolatry of self leads to the idea that a baby in one’s belly, if despised even a moment, is a heinous violation of the self no matter HOW it got there.
And babies used to be regarded as Heaven-given mysteries so it was considered a ghastly wrong to perform an abortion except to avert a situation where both mother and baby would end up dead.
