DANBY, Vt. The stepmother of a Vermont man who shot a Hudson Falls man to death Sunday said her stepson was defending his family.
Vermont State Police said Aaron Allen, 28, of Hudson Falls, died after being shot by Michael White, 24. Police said Allen went to a house on John Corey Road Sunday evening with a knife and was stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Heather Thompson, when he was shot.
Thompson, 22, had a restraining order issued in Washington County against Allen because of an April arrest for unlawful restraint, police said.
He came to kill her, and who knows, they all could have been dead if Mikey hadnt stopped him, Debbie White said Monday afternoon. She was out of state at the time of the incident but returned after the attack.
State Police said Michael White, 24, saw the attack and fired a rifle twice, hitting Allen, who was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center. He died there early Monday morning, police said.
Thompson, who is pregnant, was in Rutland Regional Medical Center Monday following surgery for multiple stab wounds, according to Debbie White.

In this case, it was a domestic with restraining order supported by a rifle.
There would be a lot less of this if people would think twice before they got into intimate relationships.
Funny. No mention of the type of rifle. Probably a fine English double, or maybe a lever action. Bolt action sniper rifles and black assault rifles are only good for committing crimes, and totally unnecessary for defense.
Was his name Earl?
;-)
That part of NY (Hudson Falls) is massively economically depressed and majorly filled with alcohol, meth and welfare.
Look to good old ‘dumbass’ or “POS” as the root of this particular incident.
We're not allowed to say this sort of thing anymore. It's considered especially inappropriate when a worthless shack-up thug tortures and kills the illegitimate children of his latest meal-ticket, who thereby becomes a "victim" of circumstances utterly beyond her control--or his, I suppose. All of it is apparently Bush's fault.
Heather has an 18-month-old child with Aaron. She's pregnant again, either with his child or someone else's. Then there's her stepbrother, Michael, and her mother, Debbie, and a 6-year-old who is either Debbie's daughter, thus Heather's half-sister, or Michael's daughter, no relation to Heather or Debbie, "from a previous relationship." (That's a term-of-art without which no journalism could proceed these days.)
Sounds a bit like the people across the street from me!
Men tend to go a bit crazy when it comes to intimate relationships with women, and women know how to pull their strings.
I cannot but wonder if this case is an indirect result of the insane Lautenberg amendment. The former boyfriend who was shot had just “resigned” from his career as a corrections officer in New York. Could it be that he lost his job because he could no longer have a gun or ammunition due to the restraining order? It is very likely that once he lost his job, he was still expected to pay child support.
As I said, men are quite vulnerable to going crazy in these circumstances. The restraining order was for “unlawful restraint” which could be as little as holding on to her to keep her from doing something stupid. Maybe he took her car keys when she said she was going to her new boyfriends place.
I am not excusing his actions. But I can see the unintended consequences when we degrade and attack institutions that have stood the tests of thousands of years in the belief that we can shape human nature into anything we want.
You can’t have a functioning society based on, “Why don’t we get drunk (or high) and screw?” Things are only going to get worse, in my opinion.
Domestic restraining order aka “Paper Kevlar”
