Dempsey - ‘It was not a stand-down order, the latrines in Tripoli badly needed cleaning and they were ordered to do so immediately!’ (paraphrased)
That really sums it up.
Dempsey is a disgrace to the uniform he wears.
Not wanting to nitpick but the military does not have authority over embassies and consulates, the State Dept. does. Any re-deployment other than a pre-approved Quick Reaction Force would likely require State Dept. approval. Without that any forces re-depolying to a diplomatic compound would be doing so without proper authorization and would conceivably not be authorized or approved by the command without State Dept. approval. Although not appealing I believe the General was in the right to re-iterate the assigned mission of the Tripoli forces ...in a France, Spring of 1940 sort-of-way.
This is what happens sometimes when diplomatic procedures trump military priorities.
Fog of war and red tape AFAIK.
Here’s the hottest question: If it was NOT a stand down order WHY were General Carter Ham and Rear Admiral Gaoette removed by their next commanding officers and sent to the “silent” corners???
So then Dempsey did indeed confirm a stand-down from Benghazi order.
Sad the compelling testimony given by the three whistleblowers got washed by other “scandals”. The testimony was in a way heartrending.
Precisely. DiGenova nailed him.
