Skip to comments. In California, Single Women Will Also Face A Doubling Of Health Insurance Premiums Due To Obamacare
Posted on 06/17/2013 11:06:47 AM PDT by Blackirish
In 2014, Obamacares blizzard of regulations and mandates will transform the U.S. market for health insurance, among people who buy coverage for themselves. Of increasing concern is the phenomenon of rate shock, whereby many Americans face substantial increases in their health insurance premiums. Much of the debate has focused on young men, the bros who will bear the brunt of Obamacares rate hikes. But in California, women and men will see equally high jumps in the underlying cost of individual-market premium

Yeah, but they get free birth control and abortion pills! < / sarcasm >
How’s that “save $2,500 per year” workin’ out for y’all?
A great way to help pay for it is to use those “lady parts” of yours that were such critical reason to re-elect this moron.
Lots of dudes will pay good money for 20 minutes in the back seat.
People are waiting for all these scandals that would normally bring down a sitting president to bring him down. I think they are icing on the cake. The low information voter will not turn on The One until his policies affect them, PERSONALLY.
When Obamacare really hits enough of them, their eyes will be opened. Regarding the scandals, they will be like the character in Field of Dreams that, after the girl is saved by the doctor, says, “Where did all these baseball players come from?”
Nothing will change until the US Government is forced to get all its revenue in real money AND to must compete with free actors in society for money - and pay REAL interest rates.
Printed, fiat money means the US Government can fund 1000 progressive schemes.
That means ending the Federal Reserve and changing our present financial system. Change that, and you immediately put hand-cuffs on government spending, and change 1000 other things, including seemingly unconnected societal trends.
The Dems are just beginning to consider the coming wrath and cry from rate shock. Someone has to pay for all those subsidized, low-income people and probably illegals who will actually get cheap insurance. Someone has to pay for all those old and very sick people who will no longer be high risk. That someone is us.
Women and children hardest hit.
Sandra Fluke and her flock need to see this.
They’ll just steal it from somewhere else...
Good. ‘Voting Stupid’ should be painful.
Hoist by their own retard.
Boo effin’ Hoo. As a group, this bunch is the second in line (only behind blacks) when it comes to the “GIMMEE!! Game.” If they thought they would be treated differently than the men in their lives, they deserve every bit of heartbreak they have coming to them.
“Sandra Fluke and her flock need to see this.”
Doubtful they will. Gonoreah ruins the eyes.
If they can get off their backs long enough to pay attention.
Yah but voting smart has been hurting just as much, and for far longer. :-(
IT DOESN’T MATTER.
THE WHOLE THING IS DESIGNED TO CAUSE AN OUTCRY AND FAIL.
IT WILL THEN BE “FIXED” BY THE INSTITUTION OF “FREE” GOVERNMENT UNIVERSAL CARE.
I’m really trying to give a damn, but can’t. I haven’t seen any polling out of the People’s Republic of California, but I am going to guess Single women voted for the this guy by a six or seven to one margin in the 2008 and 2012 election and are probably the sub group next to blacks who currently support him by huge margins. So let them eat the fricken Cake!
And the women can always ask Sandra Fluke how to get the free condoms. /s
When Clint Eastwood said “fraud” he was not just talking about Obama.
Julia also learns that LaBron James made $19 million last year. And since he is a man, that presents an obvious case of Gender Pay Discrimination which needs to be addressed via Social Activism and Community Organizing.
Why does that headline cheer me up? I’m going to try a d feel bad.....
They voted for the bastid, It’s only fair their rates go up.
I can just picture them all now... with their faces filled with hardware, their dirty hair, dirty clothes, tattoos, screaming and dirty children, etc.
THAT'S the crowd I see all over the place. They act as if they are so proud of their filthy clothes, faces full of piercing, ugly manners, disgusting tattoos and screaming children... children who will NEVER in their lives see 10 cents worth of proper parental supervision and upbringing and who will turn out JUST as bad as mom, and worse! Congratulations America!
"Bros before Hos ???"
Obamacare is carefully designed not to negatively impact low income voters. Since the low income voters also make up a large proportion of the low information voters the majority of his base will continue to support him. He’ll alienate the “white progressives”, but he’s already written them off.
I’ve been following various public discussions, and I’m convinced that the majority of Americans haven’t figured out that Obamacare isn’t free. Somewhere around mid-October, when it begins to dawn on them that they HAVE to buy insurance or pay a fine, we’ll see some slap back. At the moment, it’s just not on the radar.
Will this teach them that voting for Democrats is stupid?
The low income people will have their premiums subsidized.
There will be no “consequences” for them.
The key word in the headline is “Also”. Essentially, the author is complaining that women will “also” be paying more — rather than just men.
From the article: “the Golden State already bars insurers from charging different rates on the basis of gender in the individual market.”
Given that women (on average) consume a lot more health care than men — the state law requires men to pay more than they should for medical insurance, in order to cross-subsidize women. If rates were based solely on actuarial considerations (as is the case for most insurance); then women would pay more than men for medical insurance (and less for auto insurance).
No. Undoubtedly they blame Republicans for this.
Why aren’t these women’s fathers or husbands paying for their insurance?
Probably President Bush. Isn’t he still President?
At least Sandra Fluke will be happy.
Meanwhile back in the Wookie Queen’s court there does not seem to be any money problems.
Maybe the First Wookie will say something nice about Single Mothers and make it all better.
Really not interested in reading about your lifestyle on this thread.
For the purposes of blaming him for stuff, yeah. Who’s “Bill?”
If almost 50% of the population doesn’t pay taxes it stands to reason that Obamacare will be free to that almost 50% through subsidies. Of course the other 50% has to pay for their insurance plus the subsidies. That alone should double the price of insurance for the people who actually have to pay for it.
#1 son. He’s gone up to NJ to stay with Anoreth until ... whenever ... and I’m looking forward to her telling me he’s found a job.
"Maybe she had to pay to get laid," he offered.
“Really not interested in reading about your lifestyle on this thread.”
Really would help if reading and comprehension were something your were interested in.
Oh I hope they are all obamabots. He’s doing such a great job isnt he girls? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
In California, all the low income folks will go in MediCal, so there’s your single payer system right there. Then, as an individual’s income passes the federal poverty line and increases, that individual will have to buy insurance and the premium subsidies kick in. The subsidies last to three times the poverty line. Except for very few, the subsidies will not cover the entire premium.
Here’s a Kaiser tool. http://kff.org/interactive/subsidy-calculator/
Note that the point where the transition from “free” MediCal to payment with a subsidy kicks in varies from state to state.
It doesn’t really track with paying taxes. The requirement to have insurance is tied to income. Lots of the folks who don’t have a tax liability because they have several kids as writeoffs will bump into the insurance requirement because of their gross household income.
But I take your point in general, the subsidies are being underwritten by those who pay full premiums.
It is close enough to track.
