Rubio: ‘I’m done’ if immigration bill includes gay couple amendment The Ticket By Chris Moody, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 27 mins ago

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, a co-author and key proponent of the Senate immigration bill, said he will revoke his support if an amendment is added that allows gay unauthorized immigrants to claim foreign same-sex partners as family.

"If this bill has something in it that gives gay couples immigration rights and so forth, it kills the bill. I'm done," Rubio said Thursday during an interview on the Andrea Tantaros Show. "I'm off it, and I've said that repeatedly. I don't think that's going to happen and it shouldn't happen. This is already a difficult enough issue as it is."

The amendment, introduced by Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy, would grant green cards to foreign partners of gay unauthorized immigrants who seek legal status under new rules in the bill. Leahy originally introduced the measure during the Senate Judiciary Committee markup of the bill, but he withdrew it under pressure from Republican lawmakers who said it would reduce the chance of the bill passing.

The effort underway in Congress to overhaul the nation's immigration system is a bipartisan one, and its success hinges on a fragile coalition of political, business and religious groups that span the ideological spectrum. Opponents of Leahy's amendment have said repeatedly that his proposal would cause some key groups to withdraw their support and kill the bill. Rubio's exit would be especially devastating to its survival.

The Senate is expected to vote on Leahy's amendment soon.

In the interview, Rubio also said that as the bill is currently written, it has "no chance" of passing.

->>Strike that —I don’t think he’s actually a conservative. I love Rush, but not enough 2b suckered by Rubio

What I believe is that Rush and Hannity are not the ones to go after the establishment republicans. Ann Coulter does that so their hands are clean more or less. Though in private, could cheer her on. Ann is a paid operative wherever the money is. She wanted Rubio gone anyway. IMO. so she was happy to oblige the hit last night on Hannity and in her article. I wish Rush would be more authentic at times. He has a loyalty to someone high in the establishment. Something always seems to keep him from going too far with his critiques. I could be wrong though comes across as such.

Red Herring. The provision will be voted down, and Rubio will claim a big victory for conservatives.

Rubio is a liar. A shameless one.

He was an effective liar when when he conned people like me to send him money when he was running against Crist. The mask is off, and he had gone full blown inside-the-beltway corrupt.

The GOP really is the stupid party. I’m watching it commit suicide while it kills what is left of liberty, limited government, and rule of law. All in the quest for votes from a group of people who will toss the Republicans into the street in favor of the redistributionalists at each and every opportunity they have.

As Reagan said, freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. Sadly, it appears that this is the generation that extinguishes it.

Yesterday, Rubio didn’t sound like he was “done” in his latest talker interviews.

Ultimatums, ultimatums, and Rubio is already done. He will never get back the respect he had before prostituting himself in the immigration fiasco. We don’t want gay couples, and we don’t want the families of 20 to 40 million other illegals immigrating here. Saving the Republic is going to be difficult enough, if not already impossible, without adding 150 million new immigrants who want to help destroy it.

No offense to Rubio, but that’s the least of the troubles with this bill.

Exactly. If he views this as so bad that he'll walk but views everything else as good, I no longer trust his judgment on pretty much anything.

You are already "done," Marco, you just have not figured it out yet.

As soon as you thought itt somehow "smart," to say one version of immigration reform to us gringos and another in Spanish to your spanish speaking constituents, you proved yourself just another schemeing, lieing politician.

Despite the respect I had held for you to that point on other issues, that is a fatal flaw in my book. Can't trust you. That kind of trust is earned over a long period...but can be lost in a moment of revealing actions like yours.

In other words, the “gay” couple amendment will assuredly be a part of this bill, and Rubio will wash his hands and say that he doesn’t support it anymore and has no responsibility in the matter (while helping it get through congress). Is he channeling his inner Pontius Pilate?

Rubio, we are not as stupid as liberals.

Rubio’s work is done.

He got this turd this far.

So, he will “abandon” it for show, and it will still pass.

FUMR.
