A Texas high school principal threatened to sabotage a valedictorian’s appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy after the student delivered a speech that referenced God and the U.S. Constitution, Fox News has learned.

Hiram Sasser, director of litigation with the Liberty Institute, said Joshua High School principal Mick Cochran threatened to write a letter to the U.S. Naval Academy disparaging the character of Remington Reimer. “It was intimidating having my high school principal threaten my future because I wanted to stand up for the Constitution and acknowledge my faith and not simply read a government approved speech, the teenager said. Sasser is now representing the teenager and is calling for the Joshua Independent School District to issue a public statement exonerating him of any wrongdoing. He said the speech was edited and reviewed by four different school officials – including an officer in the JROTC. Sasser said the censorship violated federal and state laws.

If the kid had the courage of his convictions he would have presented the speech he wanted to give and said “Let me give it as is or pull me as speaker.”

By the way - did you ever graduate from the Q course?

You’d be having a beer with the chief of police while “the accident” happens.

He presented a speech that was approved and then gave another.

No, he did not lie. Neither did he put the school or the district in a legal bind. He talked about the US Constitution. Whoever edited out his submitted text is either on a personal agenda binge or is a graduate of the National Enquirer School of Law. It is upside down thinking to blame the kid. Thinking like that would have told Frankiln, Jefferson, Washington et al to just “sit down and be sweet, ok?”.

From the article

“.......Reimer, a senior at Joshua High School, made national headlines on June 6 when officials cut off his microphone in mid-speech after he strayed from pre-approved remarks and began talking about his relationship with Jesus Christ......”

Sasser is kinda’ showing himself in a bad light. The service academies are all into that “honor and integrity” stuff.

After 5 years of Obama controlling senior-level appointments and promotions, and an anticipated three and a half more years of him, do not count on the service academy commander acting according to “honor and integrity”.

Obama and his cronies WILL make note of how this is handled.

If he presented a speech to the school that was approved - and then he read a different speech - it might be said that he lied.

Bingo!
I think that is exactly what happened in this case. The student clearly violated a rule the institution thought important. The school has the authority to enforce that particular rule, its action was not arbitrary or a deprivation of the student's right to free speech.

Most of us realize service schools and the military at large are all about rules, most especially when it comes to training its officers. As argued elsewhere on this forum, such a student should not be surprised if his appointment to a military academy is given a second consideration.

Public education these days is, above all, about compliance. The ‘best’ students are the compliant ones.

In this case, it looks like a rebel got through the system.

“How so in the Honor category?”

“Midshipmen are persons of integrity. They stand for what is right.”

And, BTW, Mids take the same oath of office as all military officers: :...to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic...”

They do not take an oath to roll over when some jacka$$ school administrator tries to restrict thought.
