DENVER — A gay couple is pursuing a discrimination complaint against a Colorado bakery, saying the business refused them a wedding cake to honor their Massachusetts ceremony, and alleging that the owners have a history of turning away same-sex couples.

As more states move to legalize same-sex marriage and civil unions, the case highlights a growing tension between gay rights advocates and supporters of religious freedom.

“Religious freedom is a fundamental right in America and it’s something that we champion at the ACLU,” said Mark Silverstein, the legal director of the group in .....

Just tell them you refuse to put two males on the cake.

Although eventually gays will sue artists to force them to paint gay couples.

The same-sex couple says Masterpiece Cakeshop refused to bake a wedding cake after their Massachusetts ceremony because it would violate the owner’s Christian values.

So go find a baker who will cater to your needs, you booger eating morons!

Given this line of thought, I should sue a local grocery store because they refuse to carry a certain brand of "Dirty Rice" mix, even though I like it. I've asked them to carry it, but they refuse to do so, saying that they don't have enough call for it, and when they did carry it, it just sat on the shelves.

Isn't it my right to make them carry it? OK, sure, I could go to another grocery store that DOES carry it, but that would be inconvenient for me. Yup, I need to sue that grocery store!

Come to think of it, I do not know that I would want to eat a cake that some one made under duress, or under a court order.

They don't want a cake... They want to put the baker out of business.

In general, I oppose the idea that private business can be forced to accept customers.

On the other hand, if you have a retail store, and it is people pulling items off shelves and bringing them to your cash register, I don’t feel like fighting for the idea that you could refuse a particular customer. And selling your product off the shelf to all comers wouldn’t really be an assault on your beliefs, as you would simply choose whether to make a product available.

But in these cases like the baker, you are talking about a SERVICE task, where you are paid to create something for a client. And if the government can force you to serve a client, you are a slave of the state.

I find it illustrative to use extreme analysis. Could the baker decide to retire rather than create a cake for this couple? Or would the state be allowed to FORCE this baker to continue to work, making a cake for a client he doesn’t want to serve? Hence my comment about painters being forced to make paintings of particular items.

And if the baker quit, would he not have the right to decide to go back into business tomorrow? Or can the government force you to not do business?

We are heading into forced labor territory with the health care law, and with these lawsuits. In Maryland, a guy owned a horse-drawn trolley which he rented out for weddings, but he had to close up shop because Maryland decided if he had a license, he had to support same-sex weddings. So now normal married couples can’t hire this christian trolley, because he doesn’t want to serve atheist lesbians.

your entire comment is a good one.

I say sell the cake and let customer put the “final” toppings.

but the state should not tell you to service against your conscience...

maybe they need to be a Muslim” for the day???

Homosexual “marriage” law is about persecuting those that refuse to support and service homosexual behavior.
