A suspect has been identified in the shooting rampage that left four people dead and one gravely injured Friday in various locations around Santa Monica, California and culminated on Santa Monica College Campus.
One of those dead was the alleged shooter, whom the Los Angeles Times has identified as John Zawahri, citing five law enforcement sources in Los Angeles and Washington. Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said at a press conference Saturday that the shooter was 23-years-old on Friday, and would have turned 24 on Saturday. She declined to identify him at this point, saying the family had not yet been notified.
Seabrooks described the suspect as “a cowardly murderer.”
The incident began around 11:50 Pacific Time on Friday, at a house near Kansas Avenue and Yorkshire Avenue. Santa Monica Fire Department Chief Scott Ferguson said at the press conference Saturday that the approximately “thousand square foot residence” was “engulfed” in flames. Two bodies were discovered on the preliminary sweep and Ferguson said it was clear at that point that they would not be able to resuscitate the victims.
Ferguson said he could not release the information about how the two persons in the house had died, whether they been shot or killed by the fire. The fire, he said, is “under investigation,” but that it “doesn’t appear an accelerant was used” to ignite the fire.

It seems that the family is either Lebanese or Jordanian and belonged to an eastern Christian church - Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church.

The name of the father, Samir alerted me to the likelihood that the family was Christian of an eastern variety and another poster said he knew Lebanese Christians with the last name Zawahri.
I don’t want to jump to conclusions myself, but right now I think the simplest explanation is that the perpetrator came from a Christian family, had severe mental problems and committed these murders. I doubt religion had anything to do with it.

The parents of the terrorist that beheaded theBritish soldier were also Christian.
A few of these guys become Islamized and go to sudden jihad syndrome..
Need to keep this in view as to whether these are consequences of dependence on so-called "psychotropic" drugs -- antidepressants, anti-anxiety, antipsychotics. Is the shooter a veteran, perhaps? or a mental disorder lifer?
Logically heads for "gun-free" zone (which is most of CA, I guess).
Let's be serious. This fellow was young, just like Adam Lanza, eh?
No doubt another gun-free zone.
