Kirk Douglas looks around America these days and he sees too many guns.
The 96-year-old actor, best known for performances in classic films like Spartacus, Paths of Glory and Lust for Life, took to the cyber pages of The Huffington Post to call for more gun control--and far less guns.
I often played the good cowboy on screen, riding in to save the day. Now, everybody thinks he is a cowboy too. That frightens me. We have become a cowboy country with too many guns....
I cannot understand the people who are against some form of gun control. They should be the first to welcome a message on making it more difficult to get a gun. Many of them seem to propose more guns being available to everybody. Why? Are they interested in making more money for the gun manufacturers? Are they politicians who just want to oppose the president in anything he endorses? It's incomprehensible to me.

I thought he was taking a dirt nap.
Has he EVER been away from his own armed guards?
No doubt this old coot lives in a gated mansion with plenty of protection. He just doesn’t want it for the peons. Too bad they made him rich by going to his films.
I’ll help you pack, you senile old putz.
We have a government that:
Has drones in the sky
Has cameras on every street corner
Has access to every phone call, email, video, chat and anything else that goes on over the internet
The only thing standing between us and a full-on police state is the secret police and reporting on your neighbor’s anti-government non-conformity.
And Michael Douglas thinks we have too MANY guns?
Leave us alone.
Kirk Douglas is a worn out old bastard with too few brains.
Hey Kirk, I think you need to have a talk with your son, the one that likes oral, I think he has bigger issues than you worrying about us and our guns
Reasoning skills level: age 7.
These hollywood nuts should take care of their own screwed up kids and grandkids before opening their ignorant mouths.
I don’t think Kirk Douglas does much looking around and thinking, though he’s probably still hung up about Michael getting cancer from Oral Sex (I’ll assume cunninglingus).
Too bad senility has caught up with him.
I should have noted my comment was addressed to Mr. Douglas. You should stick around.
I guess Kirk is too senile and herpes-addled to know that we have more than 20,000 local, state and federal gun laws in this country.
Clint Eastwood you ain’t, Kirk.
I think Mr Douglas needs to ask himself why he was happy to handle guns in his pathetic movies to make money. As long as it filled his wallet and that of his creepy sons it was okay.
He has lived a comfy life surrounded by security, now that he has come close to the end he wants our rights taken away. I hope the Lord has mercy on him, he will need it.
It warms my heart (/s) that, in the middle of what appears to be the greatest assault on our civil liberties since, well, ever . . . I need to give a damn what Kirk Douglas was reported to have said a day ago.
I watched his cowboy movies many moons ago. “Gunfight at the OK Corral” (1957) was a favorite of mine.
I had no idea he was still alive and kicking. But evidently not entirely in his right mind any more.
Wonder who wrote the lines about guns that he read as an actor.
Kirk Douglas, you OLD FART, go drink that Ensure and put on those Depends to catch all that sh*t you are espousing.
This from a Jew who seems to forget what Hitler and Stalin did to the Jews who couldn’t defend themselves from a totalitarian government. Fools learn NOTHING from history.
Douglas went on to say how America has too few incontinence diapers.
Damn, I didn’t know he was still alive. Apparently in the late stages of senile dementia though.
No kidding? I wonder what his wife thinks about that. Ewww...
Why do people who make their living pretending to be other people think they have some special status to teach the rest of us how to live? Just who is this guy and what has he really accomplished that would put him on an elevated moral plain?
He sure isn’t Charlton Heston either.
Hasn’t he had a few serious Strokes? I doubt that statement was even said or written by him.
I’ll take the cowboys over those Hollywood degenerates any day.
No kiddin’! lol
Being an entertaining actor qualifies one for being......an entertaining actor.
Not a Constitutional scholar or any thing else for that matter.
Sorry Kirk, your opinion is of no value in the USSA.
Now I know what “senile” looks like and talks like.
and work as ordinary citizens and shop as ordinary citizens and take care of their own children without nannys,
and have no gates protecting them from the world, and no special private schools for their children,
and no body guards.
..when that happens, I'm sure the whole of America will give up their guns...
He was a really good actor but not very good on politics.
I will give him credit for living 96 years tho.
I appreciate his service in the Navy, WWII. That being said, he should ask to be removed from the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
WELL SIR HERE’S A BIG OLE YEEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWWWWW ATCHA (scuse me while I reload)
You were a great actor Mr. Douglas, stay out of politics and especially gun control, you’re embarrassing yourself.
How would he ever have gotten INTO a “Cowboy Hall Of Fame”? Don’t you have to herd cattle or sumfin? Playing a cowboy on the silver screen shouldn’t count!
Great actor, but just another liberal democrat. I respect his charitable contributions but that does not mean I must listen to his liberal rantings or respect them. I have known a few actors whose opinions I respect, chief among them are Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston, Kirk does not even come close!
He was apparently injured in the war and discharged for such.
I too thought this old drama queen was taking the dirt nap.....darn.
Anyone who lives to 96 has lived a righteous life....Freeper complainers should do as well
As such I could care less what a 96 year old guy says on public issues. Who the heck annoyed him enough to get this quote??? I read Kirk Douglass bio years ago and he is a self made man who came from an abusive (father) family.
You make 96 you are have done something right in your life...to say the least
>> ‘Cowboy Country with too Many Guns’,
Well here’s Wikipedia on him.
Does not look like he ever actually cowboyed... not even in rodeos. I mean nothing wrong with portraying cowboys or even identifying with them in some measure... a lot of actual cowherds became heroes for excellent reason... but I’d think any meaningful Hall Of Fame should mean you actually cowboyed.
