The woman, who is still in Manali, was yet to identify the accused.

Manali - Three Nepali truck drivers were arrested Thursday for the gang-rape of a 30-year-old US national in this Himachal Pradesh tourist resort two days ago, police said in Manali.

Arjun, Lucky and Som Bahadur Tamang, in the age group of 22-24, had been living in the state for a long time, Superintendent of Police Vinod Dhawan said.

"Two of them were arrested from Patlikuhl (20 km before Manali) and one from Mandi town," Dhawan added.

The victim, who reached this tourist resort, some 500 km from national capital Delhi, along with three other women just a day before the crime, alleged that she was early Tuesday repeatedly raped by three men, who offered her a lift in a vehicle late in the night when she could not find a taxi on the outskirts of Manali.

Police said the men drove the woman to a secluded spot and raped and robbed her.

"The victim's medical examination report confirmed sexual assault," Dhawan said.

He said investigators used clues given by the victim about the vehicle to crack the case.

"The specific clue that the vehicle's front windshield was broken from the left side and the mapping of mobile phones helped the investigating agency to nab the accused," he said.

Dhawan said the woman, who is still in Manali, was yet to identify the accused.

Police Wednesday seized the vehicle used in the crime. Its owner, Manoj Kumar, told investigators that Arjun was hired as a driver just four-five days before the crime.

This incident has brought back memories of 2009, when an 18-year-old British volunteer teacher was raped by two cab drivers in Palampur town of Kangra district.

Unfortunately it takes terrible experiences to understand that many parts of the world are not as safe as your local community.

A woman hitchhiking in Brookline, Massachusetts or Mayberry, RFD would not be safe nowadays.

The world is such that women are not safe, more so in the 3rd world.

Many young American women have been brainwashed into thinking that the use of common sense in such situations makes them racist or cultural imperialists. They would rather put themselves into such a stupid situation than disappoint their college sociology professor.

Did this woman deserve to be raped? No. Was she stupid with regard to her own safety? Probably. Expectations of equal status evaporate when physical force is required to enforce them.

Well said. It’s the same phenpomenon as black males calling white girls racist for not wanting to date them.

Agreed. . .and with the “Buffy” TV meme (young 90-lb girl kicking the stuffing out of a 180lb man) gives false sense of their own physical prowess. Heck, Buffy and any number of TV female cops ALL can take down any man on a one-on-one physical situation. . .and young people actually are swayed by this and believe the “we are all equal, a woman can do anything a man can do” nonsense.

... raped by three men, who offered her a lift in a vehicle late in the night when she could not find a taxi on the outskirts of Manali.

that would be dangerous even in the USA.

Why women think they are safe traveling alone at night or alone in isolated areas of foreign lands is a real problem. We had a "Peace Corps" teacher raped and killed here in the Philippines a couple years back...she had been hiking alone in the mountains...I'm unsure if she just ran into a jerk, or if she wandered into an illegal marijuana patch and the guy panicked and attacked her...

I rarely travel alone here in the rural Philippines because there are kidnappings for money, and lots of minor theft. I usually don't travel furthur than the local market alone...even when I go to the Mall, I go with our cook or her daughter: they aren't big enough to fight, but they are related to have the "tricycle" taxi drivers in town, so know which driver is safe...
