THEEY chose the place. THEY chose the time. THEY had it in mind, that THEY wanted what THEY thought you might have. THEY chose to gain entrance.
THEY chose their place and time of death, NOT the homeowner!

Two armed men kicked open the front door or a Lafayette, La., home early Wednesday morning and were greeted by a homeowner who opened fire, killing one of the suspects, I think I'm going to cry. I just love happy endings.
