Gang of Eight Can't Defend Their Own Bill
Creators Syndicate ^ | June 4, 2013 | Phyllis Schlafly

The Gang of Eight can't defend the Gang's own amnesty bill, S.744, or even explain it to public or TV audiences. The Gang's premier salesman, Senator Marco Rubio, admits that it isn't acceptable in its present form and must be amended on the Senate floor.

Public opinion surveys show that the American people want the border secured and current laws enforced before we even discuss amnesty. The Gang's promise that amnestied aliens must pay back taxes is a fraud because neither aliens nor employers have documentation for the years the illegal was paid in cash.

The Gang of Eight bill doesn't make any pretense of securing the border first. S.744 gives us only promises, promises and pie-in-the-sky plans, but no reason to believe any of them because all our government's promises about border security, implementation of an entry-exit system and workplace verification of employee identity have been repeatedly and flagrantly broken. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on us.

The Gang of Eight bill allows the Obama administration to decide which laws to enforce. Every S.744 provision allows Obama bureaucrats to issue waivers to avoid enforcement, a wrinkle that fits perfectly with Obama's governing style, i.e., rule by executive-branch regulations instead of by constitutional legislation.

S.744 weakens the never-enforced electronic entry/exit system that the 1996 law requires to be used at all seaports and airports and was funded by Congress five times. S.744 guts this law by excluding 106 land border-entry points where most crossings take place.

S.744 will continue to increase our current illegal population. The Gang of Eight bill not only fails to enforce federal law against giving college-tuition preference to illegal aliens (which Obama unconstitutionally violated by executive order), but it also guarantees states right to offer in-state tuition to future illegal aliens.

They quit running their Amnesty Surrender 2013 commercial featuring Rubio and Ryan and switched to a newer version.

I imagine the increasingly negative connotations with them and amnesty had a lot to do with it.

Rubio has earned whatever happens to his reputation and support. Those who came out early warning about him were correct then, as is obvious now.

Reid says he’s planning on bringing the bill up in June and that he’ll get the 60 votes to pass it pretty easily. I hope he’s wrong.

It’s a disgrace these senators seek to change our entire nation and they do it in a small group with no hearings for the public. Absolutely frightening.

Learned nothing from the Obamacare debacle. Do you remember the only “hearing” of that was a senate committee where they “marked up” the bill?

We are not living in a smart country any longer. This crap is just plain dumb.

...the American people want the border secured and current laws enforced before we even discuss amnesty.

How about you guys go to the home countries of the thousands of people who have been trying to immigrate here legally and apologize to them. Explain why the criminals who broke into our country get preferential treatment.

I talk politics a lot with people. I’ve yet to have ONE person tell me, “Ya know. We’ve really got to do something about immigration.” This whole immigration fiasco is a political thing for the politicians.

Rubio is starting to wakeup to the fact that he has stepped into a BIG pile of $hit and his popularity is waning rapidly.

Sorry about your luck Mr. Rubio! /s

It's because they can't trust the electorate to re-elect them.

Their solution to the problem is to create a new, more compliant electorate.

This is just the latest reflection of what the real political conflict in America has become: Washington vs The Rest of Us.

The scum politicians never do anything for normal, working, traditional American families. Everything they do is for the moochers, bums, deadbeats, and parasites who comprise the Democrat party base. Everything.

You are on the money. The democrats want this issue for the 2014 elections. If they can get it thru the senate. They know it is a loser in the house.

It is time we play the demos game. After twice being promised spending cuts for tax increases(Reagan and Bush I). Our position should be absolute border security with a promise of amnesty sometime in the future.

Still think given the current situation, grassroots push for EV is the only option available for people to make a difference.
