Taco Bell's Facebook page features employee licking shells

Taco Bell lovers checking out the fast-food chain's official Facebook page Sunday were greeted with a photo of a young man licking a stack of shells.

It's not clear whether the saliva-coated shells were doled out to customers, but Taco Bell and the employee's Facebook friends believe they were trashed.

"When we learned of the situation we immediately contacted this restaurant's leadership and although we believe it is a prank and the food was not served to customers, we are conducting a full-scale investigation and will be taking swift action against those involved," Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch said.

The young man tagged in the picture, Nicholas Kauffman of Ridgecrest, Calif., didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Commenters who claim to know Kauffman said he no longer works at Taco Bell and the shells were expired and headed for the garbage.

I suspect those were end of business leftovers and served bit thrown out.

Day old shells do not taste good.

One of my first jobs was at a Taco Bell, late 70’s or so.

Back then they use good fresh food for their ingredients.

Don’t know about now, but they did back then.

When I was at Domino's, the KFC down the street would call us about 10:00 every night, asking if we wanted to trade some pizza for some chicken.

We did a couple of times, but we quickly figured out it was chicken they were going to have to throw out, while we had to make the pizza fresh.

We started saying no thanks, and they stopped calling.

What I’d like to know is, how did a bonehead picture like this ever get on the official FB site? Seems if they allowed this to go up that just about *anything* could be put there.
