Maybe I missed the fact that NO Democrat has EVER lied during a campaign - if so someone please correct me.

It would seem to me that the uninformed voter picks up on a few key items - gay marriage, abortion, and the like. Informed voters key on things like taxes, gun rights and the like.

So as a democrat you promise, and be sincere now - not to EVER raise taxes or “take your guns”. Even though you know that is not your true intent.

As a republican you promise, and be sincere now - to be in favor of gay marriage and you are “pro choice”. Even though that is not your true intent.

So some folks it would seem are ready and willing to just hand over an election because they are unwilling to participate in the regular political process? You would prefer to have Obama in office (by NOT voting) rather than support a candidate that has most of the views you prefer?

It is true the republican party might be toast because its membership is loaded with single issue people who choose to avoid voting because they can’t see the forest for the trees.

I am a single issue voter - the issue is morality.

Government debt is a moral issue, government overreach is a moral issue, etc.

If I vote for an immoral guy (or gal), they’re going to believe that any bill is one they can compromise on.

Well, 1/2 of $17 trillion in debt is as wrong as $17 trillion, and there’s no such thing as 1/2 an abortion.

1/2 wrong is still wrong. So if you always meet the Democrat 1/2 way on wrong legislation, you’re doing great as a politician seeking reelection, but you’re really stinking morally.

A “compromiser” (what most politicians are) has no principles that are not up for sale.

As long as Republicans can maintain at least a facade of being the “moral” party they’ll have some conservatives voting for them.

But it looks like to me they’re getting close to dropping the facade altogether.

I’m not naive enough to ignore the fact that both parties are simply fronts for their financial masters.

Far too many Republicans are simply playing politics with Democrats like a sport. Republican politicians always tell conservatives that the Republicans NEED to WIN.

They are the ones who don’t really care if they win or lose, because when they get elected they do the same horse-trading, gravy-train, billions of dollars in handouts game as Democrats do. It’s the Republican version, but the Washington, DC machine never really changes at all.

Which means it didn’t really matter who won, American wound up in the same place, just got there by a little different route.
