ASSIUT, Egypt — An Egyptian court has convicted a Coptic Christian lawyer in the southern province of Assiut on charges of blasphemy and sentenced him to one year in prison with hard labor. The verdict against Roman Murad Saad was handed down on Saturday. It’s the latest in a surge of blasphemy cases following Egypt’s 2011 uprising.

...

Court officials say Saad was found guilty of ridiculing Islam’s holy book, the Quran, at a lawyers’ union library. No further details were immediately available in the case.

"If they try that crap over here..."

How far down the road can that be?

With the recently-opened huge electronic data collection center in Utah; the admissinon that every email, phone call and other form of electronic communication is being recorded and saved in perpetuity; and the rather cavalier statement that the Justice Department is going to be on the lookout for "extreme" criticism of Islam, does anybody still believe that it can't happen here????

Where's that idiot actor who talked of a 'Chill wind blowing in America'???

Any question you ask a Muslim, or a liberal, for that matter, that they can’t answer is viewed as an “insult.” Punishing people, either with hard labor or lawsuits, in the case of liberals, stops others from assaulting them with questions they can’t answer.

If we allow it we deserve what we get. The recording going on at the Bluffdale Center are more for citizen intimidation and control than security IMO.

Rubbish. Islam is just one more religion. Put it in its proper place.

Can't say that I disagree, because I do believe that it can be a very effective tool for that. Control over political speech is the main objective.

And, oh, how convenient! What a perfect way of stifling 'extreme, conservative talk radio'! A few high profile cases -- Rush, Beck, Levin, et al -- would serve as great examples. All of them can be reasonably proven to have made anti-radical Islam statements countless times in the past and present.

And, don't forget we've already got a 'filmmaker' sitting in jail for creating a 'hateful video' that sparked a protest that resulted in the death of a US Ambassador. Obama and Hillary said so.

We're frogs in the pot of water, and they've just kicked turned the heat up on the burner. It's getting hot in here.

"If we allow it we deserve what we get."

Well, yes... And NO!

I've heard a similar statement made about the election of people like Obama and his gang of ant-Constitution, anti-American criminals. And I've probably even uttered words to that effect myself.

But... I don't deserve it and my children don't deserve it!!! I'm doing everything in my power to prevent this crap and it's happening anyway. There are millions of us, but there are more millions who are either sycophants or blissfully ignorant of what is going on.

I don't deserve what they are allowing to happen.

It seems no one in this thread has read about an Obama Attorney General in Kentucky that say he can proseciute when bad things are said about Islam.

It is happening here folks.

Uh, although I didn't use the same verbiage you did, that's exactly what I was referring to when I wrote these words...

They *are* trying that crap here. I read an article the other day where they are thinking of passing laws where you can be punished for insulting Islam on Facebook or some other public websites.

But putting all that aside, Obama HIMSELF said people should be punished for it. Remember his speech last year at the UN? "The future must not belong to those who insult the prophet of Islam!" What is he saying there? He is saying "Death to those who insult Islam". What else would "The future must not belong" mean? It's a nice way of saying "Death".."If you insult Islam, you will have no future"..

That this so-called Attorney General can make such a statement is a testament to how far we have already fallen and what this administration feels about the First Amendment.

We are in the hands of people who mean harm to our country.

Where are the Patriotic Americans in Congress, certainly they are not in the Democrat party that is nothing but sycophants, and not many in the Republican party either.

Hillary and Obama’s “Arab Spring” is looking like “Christians’ Winter.” I’m sure that pleases both of them.

I should think just being a Muslim insult enough.

Any well founded religion can endure and survive blasphemy except (i)slam this is the reason it is not tolerated. If humanity is to evolve and continue on its evolutionary path sooner or later (i)slam just like socialism will have to go the road of the Do-Do bird as both of them are just about as useful as teats on a boar and invariably lead to mayhem and destruction.
