It sounds to me like they are making a distinction between European whites and the Arab Islamists.

The “pink skins” they are referring to are Arab Islamists who have taken a hike, leaving these poor people free from terror. This is what I would call a feel-good story.

They’ve only seen “pinks” as people who have enslaved and abused them. Let a few missionaries from Voice of the Martyrs or Samaritan’s Purse visit them and they might change their point of view.

Freeing of slaves is always a cause for celebration.
