IRS scandals include gift tax abuse

The IRS unit headed by Lois Lerner not only harassed conservative nonprofits seeking tax exempt status, it evidently set in motion harassment of donors to nonprofits. Talk about a chilling effect!

The details are laid out in a Wall Street Journal story:

At the same time the Internal Revenue Service was targeting tea-party groups, the tax agency took the unusual step of trying to impose gift taxes on donors to a prominent conservative advocacy group formed in 2007 to build support for President George W. Bush's Iraq troop surge.

The probe of the group, Freedom's Watch, began in the unit led by Lois Lerner, the IRS official already under scrutiny for her role in the more recent targeting of conservative groups. (snip)

In February 2010, the same month the tea-party targeting started, according to a recent inspector general's report, Freedom's Watch was subjected to an IRS audit that focused largely on its political activities, an uncommon but not unprecedented action, election lawyers say. The probe broadened into other areas, including executive compensation.

About a year later, as many as five donors to Freedom's Watch were subjected to IRS audits of their contributions that sought to impose gift taxes on their donations to the group, according to lawyers and former officials of Freedom's Watch.

When news of the gift tax audits was made public, the resulting outcry resulted in it being stopped. But the identity of Freedom Watch was not known until the Journal published its story.

The gift tax is aimed at people seeking to avoid estate and inheritance taxes, and is not normally focused on groups with nonprofit status.

Lois Lerner should be made to be the “face of evil.” If half of what she is accused of doing proves to be true, she should be vilified. She should become a pariah - and the face of liberal governmental overreach.

Instead of yelling “Remember the Alamo,” patriotic Americans (taxpayers) should shout “Remember Lois Lerner”

Obama used the IRS to rig the election for him and the democrats/socialists in the Senate.The election was stolen. We no longer live in a free country.

Obama’s IRS prevented many tea party groups from getting started. Other gov agencies also involved in stealing the election. So IRS and other agencies coordinated in rigging the election.Why isn’t anyone shouting this from the rooftops( calling Ann Coulter, Malkin,Sarah Palin, Rush , Levin, Drudge?)

IRS also audited Romney donors, Republican donors, and intimidated many conservative individuals.

The IRS intimidated good conservative Americans into not raising funds for the election, The IRS criminals massively suppressed conservative voter turnout. the 2012 election must be contested. The IRS rigged it. the media said the democrat ground game was superior . that’s bs. now we know what happened to the tea party of 2010 . the IRS destroyed it.

These arrogant communists/democrats at the IRS act like they are above the law.

Government doesn’t work.

The enemy is the democrat party = government

The income tax and the IRS have been given 100 years to demonstrate to the American people that they are worthy financial stewards. They have failed. It’s time for Congress to get the IRS out of politics. It’s time for the FairTax.

Review the following excerpted paragraphs from our nation's Declaration of Independence from coercive power of government:

"The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of representation in the legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies without the consent of our legislature.

He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to civil power.

He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us.

He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow citizens taken captive on the high seas to bear arms against their country, to become the executioners of their friends and brethren, or to fall themselves by their hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare, is undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions." Clearly, King George's list of transgressions and invasions of the Creator-endowed lives, rights and liberties of the colonists were numerous and excessive.

America's Founders, however, by their subsequent actions in framing a Constitution, structured a form of self government which would "chain" and "bind" future leaders to its prescription for a People-over-government idea, and nullifying the old Government-over-People forms which allowed the kinds of abuses outlined in their formal complaint.

If one can find even one or two similarities between King George's offenses and those of current government officials, then Jefferson gave excellent advice when, in his First Inaugural, he outlined the principles which would guide his Administration:

(Excerpt) "Kindly separated by nature and a wide ocean from the exterminating havoc of one quarter of the globe; too high-minded to endure the degradations of the others; possessing a chosen country, with room enough for our descendants to the thousandth and thousandth generation; entertaining a due sense of our equal right to the use of our own faculties, to the acquisitions of our own industry, to honor and confidence from our fellow-citizens, resulting not from birth, but from our actions and their sense of them; enlightened by a benign religion, professed, indeed, and practiced in various forms, yet all of them inculcating honesty, truth, temperance, gratitude, and the love of man; acknowledging and adoring an overruling Providence, which by all its dispensations proves that it delights in the happiness of man here and his greater happiness hereafter—with all these blessings, what more is necessary to make us a happy and a prosperous people? Still one thing more, fellow-citizens—a wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. Equal and exact justice to all men, of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political; peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none; the support of the State governments in all their rights, as the most competent administrations for our domestic concerns and the surest bulwarks against antirepublican tendencies; the preservation of the General Government in its whole constitutional vigor, as the sheet anchor of our peace at home and safety abroad; a jealous care of the right of election by the people—a mild and safe corrective of abuses which are lopped by the sword of revolution where peaceable remedies are unprovided; absolute acquiescence in the decisions of the majority, the vital principle of republics, from which is no appeal but to force, the vital principle and immediate parent of despotism; a well disciplined militia, our best reliance in peace and for the first moments of war, till regulars may relieve them; the supremacy of the civil over the military authority; economy in the public expense, that labor may be lightly burthened; the honest payment of our debts and sacred preservation of the public faith; encouragement of agriculture, and of commerce as its handmaid; the diffusion of information and arraignment of all abuses at the bar of the public reason; freedom of religion; freedom of the press, and freedom of person under the protection of the habeas corpus, and trial by juries impartially selected. These principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us and guided our steps through an age of revolution and reformation. The wisdom of our sages and blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political faith, the text of civic instruction, the touchstone by which to try the services of those we trust; and should we wander from them in moments of error or of alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty, and safety."

I suspect if you follow this IRS business back to it’s root, you will find the Clinton administration.

At this point in time, it has been proved that the IRS can be corrupted to work on behalf of a political master, that the work is highly effective, that there is no punishment for the work - there may even be promotion, and lastly that the GOP will not have the courage to reverse each and all of these outcomes. Please prove me wrong Boehner, Issa, McConnell and all.
