First-grade teacher faked terminal illness for A YEAR to avoid going to work

A Florida teacher has admitted lying to her bosses and telling them she and her father were dying of a terminal illness just so she could avoid going to school.

Ashley Barker, a first grade teacher at Laurel Elementary School in Polk County, kept up her bizarre story for an entire year before she was finally found out.

For nearly a year, school officials took Barker at her word and allowed her to leave early and take numerous days off.

The district won't confirm how many days Barker skipped class. However according to her termination letter, seen by WFTV, she sent the school principal 120 letters regarding the illness that she and her father were supposedly suffering from.

When school officials finally confronted Barker, she admitted she hadn’t been at the hospital or the doctor's office, but had been at home with nothing wrong with her.

Now that the school is seeking to terminate her employment, Barker has hired a lawyer and is fighting them. Her case is due to go to a formal hearing before a judge.

She could argue that what she was doing was no different than what President Obama does.

I don’t want to see one of the first graders, I want to see the teacher.

She was “depressed, mentally ill” - proof= she made up an illiness so she wouldn’t have to go to school. Therefore she is “disabled” and draws disability pay... see that was easy.

If I were a deadbeat like her, I’d have done the same thing - see exactly just how much I could get away with. When finally confronted with a hierarchy no longer willing to bend over backwards and issuing a letter of termination, I would then contact the most sleazy lawyer I could - I’d have had plenty of opportunities to pick a ‘good’ one from daytime TV.

This ‘lawyer’ would have the resources to get me a doctor, any doctor, willing to sell his credentials from Jamaica or San Rafael, or Mexico - Guatamala et al. I’d be diagnosed with an obscure disease/malfunction that could not be proven conclusively, but falls within the ADA guidelines.

I’d clean the f@ck up in court.

She should’ve gotten a note from Epstein’s mother

She’ll sue under ADA. She’ll claim to be bi-polar or bi-lazy or something

"a note" -- of course ... how did I miss that???

Did she have a note from her mom or dad for all those days she missed???

If she did then she has her excuse.

Case dismissed.

“How in the world could she possibly fight this?????”

Probably several ways, one that comes to mind is...the school was negligent in not verifying her condition from the get go...however I don’t know how they could have done so with medical privacy and all...but she can claim that is not her fault.

No doubt at the end of it all the school system will wind up paying her a settlement.

Union?

Was she lying?

Does she feel she still deserves a job?

Is she calling upon our no longer trusted, corrupt, and totally worthless legal system?

Of COURSE she is union.
