According to Fox News in Austin, the legislation (HB 308), introduced by Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) and dubbed The Merry Christmas Bill, received overwhelming approval in the state house, by a margin of 145-2, and was passed unanimously in the state senate, 29-0. The bill will now be sent to Gov. Rick Perry (R) for his signature.
I was a little flabbergasted and a little upset that weve become so politically correct that we cant call a federal holiday by its name, Bohac said. Teachers have enough on their plate to worry about the school districts going to be sued or if they can call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree.
Bohac said there are two pending lawsuits in Texas related to the use of traditional holiday greetings in schools. Tales from Christmas Past provides stories, posted on the bills website, submitted by citizens who write of oppression and threats of firings against teachers if they say, Merry Christmas, to students or exchange cards or gifts at school.
However, Linda Bridges, president of the Texas branch of the American Federation of Teachers, which opposed the bill, questioned the importance of the legislation.

I talk with a lot of insurance carriers on the phone every day and always tell the person I’m speaking with that I hope they have a Happy whatever holiday it is. One of the gals from United Healthcare in California complained to her supervisor who called me and asked that I refrain from saying Merry Christmas when I called their office because it made their employees “feel uncomfortable”. Too bad.
After that I always made sure I not only opened the call but also ended it by saying Merry Christmas. I also always do it when I am talking to a call center in India or the Philippines.
Doomed in the courts.
Welcome to the Lone Star State. And Merry Christmas a little early, in case i forget later!
Many thanks Nita, and merry Christmas early :)
Grams a,

Linda Bridges
Atheists aren’t loved by anybody.
They are 99% a-holes.
The other 1% are what the a-hole spit out.
We just have to make darn sure the liberal do not steal any elections here and we keep the Texas house and senate. If we let the filthy communist democrats take over we are gone..Also as far as I am concerned I want to keep Rick Perry as governor.. Merry Christmas everyone and good Bless America!!!
If Texas weren’t so hot and dry or alternately humid and flooded I’d move there in a second.
You have to get use to the weather here..When we moved all the time with the military we had to get use to the weather again when we got home It was all worth it because you get treated like family even if you are strangers. Now I say that but I have to tell you if you tick a Texan off the the old saying goes DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS or I say TEXANS.
Where we live we have very little flooding but there is some in places..If you live by the shore then yes you will have flooding or in low lying areas..
The only people caught up in "partisan discussions" are the two idiots in the state house that voted against this bill and dimwits like you ms bridges.
What an assclown. Shaking head and LOL...
Exactly what I was thinking. States having to pass their own laws from the tyranny of the Feds.
PATHETIC!
How tragic that a state even has to consider such a bill.
‘Thank God’
Eric Holder and lawsuits by “unknown underlings” who he has no information of in 3... 2.... 1...
It’s sad that it’s come to this. :-(
But the tyranny of the feds always triumph because of Article VI (Supremacy Clause).
