If you don’t make people do something, it’s your fault.

They want a gov’t that tells them how to do everything and provides for them through the work of others.

Big Brother lives in the modern left.

[T]here were no rules in Moore or anywhere else in Oklahoma mandating that buildings…have so-called “safe rooms” or underground shelters to protect people during a storm…

Nor should there be. That should be up to the individuals and the local government. Unfortunately, like me the feds strip so much money out of them that they often have to go without the things they want or need.

The Great Leap Forward shows that controlled command economics kills. See how that works, Kossack morons?

It's hard to believe liberals can be so completely clueless...

Liberals are full of advice after the fact when something happens, aren’t they?

Actually, the country would better off if free markets were thriving so the government could not have complete power/ take the total control- take our liberties away from the people to make decisions where to live and when to purchase items or to not. Oh, silly me, those supporters of DK are progressives. It's always to them about punishing the person who has earned more because some liberal government knows the best.

Obama’s America analyzes Barack Obama's call to transform our national identity. His definition of America emphasizes unity while being fully inclusive of all Americans. A country’s national identity is a living organism, and Obama hopes to redefine ours in a subtle yet fundamental way.

Well, taking the Kos argument to the logical extreme, it would be a lot cheaper to pass a Federal law mandating that no one live in Oklahoma.

Perhaps the Gov should mandate straight jackets for folks like Ian Reifowitz.

What were the hurricane preparedness regulations for homeowners in New York and New Jersey when Sandy hit?

Approved FEMA home shelters cost between $6,600 and $8,700.

From NatGeo:

FEMA estimates that the cost for a steel-reinforced 8-by-8-foot room is between $6,600 and $8,700. The agency has some rebate programs to offset these costs for homeowners.

Many local municipalities in Oklahoma have applied for federal rebate money to offset the costs of building shelters. In 2012, Oklahoma launched a program called SoonerSafe, which can give homeowners up to 75 percent of the cost of building a safe room—as much as $2,000. The money comes from the federal government and is dependent on unused FEMA funds. Last year, 16,000 people applied for the funds and 500 were awarded grants through a lottery.

“super storm” sandy ( a cat 1! hurricane!) showed how much NJ building codes were corrupt but nobody pisses and moans about that.

Now Verizon is saying they have no reason or requirement to build phone lines back. IOW they are screwed.

Logically impossible: Oklahoma doesn’t operate as a “free-market conservative” society. It operates as a decidedly anti-free-market economy, as evidenced by the existence and operation of monopoly governments, monopoly court and judicial systems, monopoly law enforcement services and systems, a monopoly provider of legal tender where all competition is at best legally reduced to irrelevancy if not made outright illegal, compulsory taxation (you don’t get to choose your preferred provider of core services, nor do you get to choose which of those services you will purchase,) comprehensive regulation and licensing of business and professions by a monopolist of ultimate decision making who thereby has de facto control of the “private” economy to whatever degree it desires, and who uses that control to protect the rich and powerful from competition by those without sufficient capital to do business while conforming to all the regulations and licensing requirements.

So you may blame that fiercely unfree, anti-capitalist system for whatever happens or fails to happen. But you may not blame the free market, because the current system forbids its existence or operation.

For decades the left has criticized people who built “bunkers”. Now conservatives are to blame because not everybody has one. Go figure.

It must be a recent leftard talking point. After the fertilizer company blast in Texas, some tard was arguing that if Conservatives hadn’t blocked stronger zoning laws, less people would have been killed. Nevermind the violations by the company or the fact that zoning laws drive up the cost of housing....

If ALL the government did was mandate safe housing codes and common sense things (you have to have standards, and weights and measures) I would have MUCH less of a problem with it...

The schools were built under State and local GOVERNMENT control. If there were no safe rooms or shelters there, I’d say that’s the GOVERNMENT’S failing, not that of the free market.
