LONDON (AP) - Britain is bracing for clashes with right-wing extremists and possible copycat terror attacks after the brutal slaying of a young soldier. London's Metropolitan Police said more than 1,000 officers will be sent to potential trouble spots with armed response units. Only a fraction of Britain's police officers are armed.

“Only a fraction of Britain’s police officers are armed.”
That will have to change. And then arm the people themselves.
They won’t be copycats. They are part of a concerted effort by Islamic Jihadis.
You stop that! Stop, or I'll throw my keys, I'll blow my whistle!
The PC way of life will be their own demise.
Shouldn’t all of those on the watch list be rounded up and sent to Mecca?
Britain braces for its citizens to defend themselves when it’s clear it won’t.
Hint. Round up ALL of the freakin muslims and deport them.
They still just can’t bring themselves to say that the murderers were Muslims. If you can’t even name your enemy, how can you be expected to fight it?
Brace is the only thing they can do. They are not allowed to be armed or hurt their attackers. I’ve got a gun in my pocket (no pun intended there) right now just because I carry one like I carry my wallet. Can’t do that in merry ol’ England.
The Brits will never do that.
Only a fraction of Britains police officers are armed.
Yes, but they are only 20 minutes away.
So, take Janet Napolitano’s advice — stock up on scissors and staplers.
It’s going to take quite a bit more Muslim inspired horror to awaken the majority of Brits from their present from their politically correct stupor
Britain needs some big signs:
NO MEAT CLEAVER ZONE, without a butcher’s license
NO MACHETE ZONE, without a jungle vine clearing license
Decades of 'multicultural' socialist rubbish and the ever-growing nanny state has turned them into weak, dependent people who are unarmed and unmotivated. The government is useless and the Muslim crazies know it. They are ready to pounce, confident that an unarmed and frightened populace will be an easy target. This will not end well for England and it's people but they have essentially created the conditions for the Islamic assault they now face.
No doubt people said we were finished in 1815, 1914, 1940 and during the IRA days. This is the country that survived the Blitz, decades of the IRA, July 7th.
Think some Islamic scumbags are going to finish this ancient nation off?. Think again.
And just what, pray tell, are Britons going to do about muzzie terror acts like this?
By the way, the muzzie wielding the bloody meat cleaver is also seen in a photo near Anjem Choudary, the isolated nutcase with no following whatsoever.
The generation of 1940 is mostly gone, I fear.
I admire your optimism but the England of today is a far cry from the eras you reference. Socialism has taken a heavy toll on the economy and, more significantly, the attitudes of the population. The average age in the UK is 37, meaning that many were born in the last 30 years and have no real grasp of the glories of past British victories over adverse situations - or the same kind of toughness you assume still exists.
I don't wish the Brits any harm (my ancestors were English) and hope your optimism is proven true but I fear that too many British citizens have allowed themselves to become dependent on the government dole and assumed government protection. That being the case, they will fall prey to the millions of Muslims now living, mostly un-assimilated, in merry old England. Many of those Muslims will be only too willing to test the resolve of the English people and their liberal government.
Not every Muslim is a terrorist but, to date, every terrorist has been Muslim.
The rot you speak of is in every Western nation. I don’t doubt you agree. However, not unlike an beaten and abused spouse, at some point, there will be payback.
In Britain this involves hiding in the closet pissing themselves and condemning yanks for their violent gun culture. Kind of like new yorkers, but rather than condemning yanks, with new yorkers it involves condemning those unsophisticated bitter clingers in fly over country.
In 1940 you had Churchill. Where's that level of leadeship today?
UK has never faced a threat like this, they’re not fighting an external enemy, they’re fighting internal ones, not only moslems, but the government itself.
We “bitter clinger Yank violent culture cowboys” have our guns. No ifs, ands or buts.
The Brits can look down their noses at us all they want. But they know about the 2nd Amendment & envy us, the muzzies know about it and hate us.
Bottom line: Muzzies in America are far less likely to act out than muzzies in UK. There are no Anjem Choudary bullhorn shouters here, none. Jihadi murderers like those who struck in London are too likely to die in a hail of citizens’ bullets if they tried that here.
For muzzies, there are far too many of us armed “infidels” here. Too many guns loaded with bullets dipped in pig grease. Too many crosses and too many Bibles. Too many Americans willing to ask their Muslim acquaintances (not friends, Koran forbids) the following:
“Do you as a Muslim advocate Shariah law for America? Yes or no?”
Be much harder on the extremists than we have been. Shut down the preachers of hate. Jail them. Deport them.
BTW, I never said Choudray never had a following, I said, and it remains true, that he has (thankfully) a small following. Sadly that small following seems to be as vile as he is.
True, but then I could say the same about the 1941 generation in your country. Or the 1939 generation in Canada, Australia, NZ....the west as whole is not what it was and should be.
We dealt with an internal threat from 1916 to 1998, remember. One which still exists today in fact.
Dang them right-winger copycats...how is a utopian socialist nation supposed to deal with us evil right-wingers?
That’s true, but it’s still not the same.
The IRA had people in the British-Irish community, and on the left, helping them in the UK. We had politicians either being ineffective at dealing with or openly condoning the IRA.
I’d say there are at least some similarities.
