It seems like only yesterday that IRS Director of Exempt Organizations Lois Lerner was claiming she knew nothing about the dastardly work of those shadowy "low-level employees in the Cincinnati office" - who somehow remain shadowy to this day, despite having been blamed for the worst abuse-of-power scandal in living memory. The Incompetence Defense beloved of this administration, and so effective with a media that would never accept it from a Republican official, was deployed with gusto. Lerner was shocked, shocked, to discover gambling against Tea Party groups going on at Rick's Tax Exempt Organizations Cafe American.
But now National Review has uncovered documentation proving Lerner was up to her neck in the operation, over nine months after she claims she learned about it:

This legal intimidation came all the way from the top. I guarantee it. I saw it 2008. Obama and his goons are experts at using legal shennanigans against their opponents. Even if Obama never directly said the words, “audit conservatives,” it was inherently understood to be his philosophy. They did his bidding.
We saw it very starkly with Joe the Plumber.
Her pardon is already written out.

Robert F. Bauer, who will take on part of the responsibilities of Norm Eisen, the departing Special Counsel to the President for Ethics and Government Reform, has a long and storied career in Washington. He has represented the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Kerry and Obama presidential campaigns, and 527 organizations like Vote Now and America Coming Together. He’s defended Democratic politicians who ran into ethics trouble, including former Rep. Tony Coelho and former Sen. Robert Torricelli—both of whom were forced to give up their offices as ethics charges mounted against them. He’s filed ethics complaints against Republican and Republican-leaning organizations, most spectacularly when he prepared a complaint alleging racketeering on the part of former Republican Majority Leader Rep. Tom DeLay for extortion (for his aggressive fundraising), money laundering and illegally coordinating with section 527 groups to evade campaign finance laws. The suit was later dropped.
Thanks mostly to Lexis-Nexis and his own blog, here are a few choice quotes from Robert Bauer over the years. In reverse chronological order:

The letter is thin gruel. It does look like an auto signature. Issa’s investigators need to get the contact person mentioned in the letter to detail how he came to send his letter and his role in sending the Lerner letter. The questions in his letter are outrageous on their face. It is like asking someone setting up a business how they are going to conduct business before they conduct business. It is totally unnecessary and harassment.
What the committee and the IRS IG also need to look at is the actual audit records of 501C4 organizations.
If Lerner stands strong, continues to stonewall, and doesn’t spill the beans on higher-ups she will be rewarded by the Oba-Mafia with a different job, better pay and bonuses.
And the SEIU protests on the lawns of Wall Street execs.

Lerner was also in charge at the FEC when Obama was raking in $millions in campain contributions from Gaza and elsewhere. FEC enforcement on that....crickets.
Lerner will have a change of heart once she realizes there is a giant bus parked on top of her.

I disagree. Obama is too much of a sociopath for that. He will have no problem with her receiving the full penalty as long as it absolves him of any responsibility. The story is already being set up that Lerner had a history of this type of activity (Clinton Administration), and that Obama is the one who discovered it and put a stop to it. Before it’s over, Obama will be spun as the hero who cleaned up all this corruption.
