Garcetti Mayoral Win In L.A. Is Sign Public's Fed Up With Unions

Organized Labor: On the surface, the Los Angeles mayor's race looked like a choice between Coke and Pepsi. But Eric Garcetti's lopsided win over Wendy Greuel showed a major difference — in the public's view of unions. City Controller Greuel lost 54%-46% on Tuesday, bested by City Councilman Garcetti, who will become the mayor of America's second-largest city on July 1. It was an interesting result because the candidates are two peas in a pod. Both are left-wing Democrats with ideas so closely aligned they have been political allies; both grew up in the San Fernando Valley; and both hold considerable experience in Los Angeles city politics. In addition, both raised comparable amounts of campaign cash that exceeded a record $33 million total. Yet Garcetti won easily in what is most likely a sign of the public's dissatisfaction with Greuel's coziness with Los Angeles' all-powerful public employee unions.

Interesting that you post IBD editorials here, but posting of Michael Ramirez’s IBD work is prohibited.

Those L.A. clowns haven’t had a good mayor since the late Sam Yorty.

Some AEI luncheon where P.J. O’Rourke spoke.

All around a great event.

Of course I had no idea it was THE Michael Ramirez until I was told afterwords, but I also got a chance to chat with P.J. before the luncheon started so that was cool.

What happened to Villaraigosa? Has Lost Allegiance enacted term limits for mayor? IIRC Tom Bradley served 5 terms but he left in 1993.
