Sooo, what does the NAACP stand for again?
To: oxcart
The NAACP doesn’t seem to have a problem with it.

Yet, modern self references to “people of color”, “women of color”, etc., is somehow less offensive? Yeah sure.
Jeebers, in my lifetime, “colored”, “Negro”, “Afro American”, “Black”, “African American” “people of color” have all been rotated through.
Just pick one and stick to it, I say.

NAACP (National Assoc for the Advancement of Colored People) = OK
People of Color = OK
Colored People = Offensive
Black = OK
Negro (Spanish for black) = Offensive
United Negro College Fund = OK
Can someone explain this to me?

Times like this I am tempted to get into bio-research and develop a non-fatal modified cold virus that permanetly changes someone's skin color.
I am thinking a nice shade of Blue...
I have the formula for the blue skin virus, but it has a horrible flaw, once infected the person has an attraction to making and playing musical instruments that are made out of PVC pipe....

Certain foods, fried chicken and watermelon in particular, have been used in dehumanizing caricatures of blacks as far back as the beginning America's segregation era in the 19th century. I grew up in 1956-1966 rural Georgia, and I loved Mom's fried chicken and Grandpa's watermelons and I never once heard or saw any sort of "dehumanizing caricature" made of them regarding the black folks we knew or any black folks in general.
Maybe it once upon a time was, but did it ever occur to anyone that, if you have to explain it every time you mention it, that you're just perpetuating the thing that you're decrying?

Everything is racist if the want it to be. Nothing is racist if they don’t want it to be.
If “white” is acceptable, then “colored” must be acceptable.
And if you aren’t 21, “boy” might very well apply.
When people stop reacting to their nonsense, it will stop.
