IRS Scandal Is The Latest Evidence That We Need A Fair Tax
Forbes ^ | 05/23/2013 | Louis Woodhill

Posted on 05/23/2013 7:17:01 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

On the surface, conservatives and progressives seem to be in agreement about what should be done about the IRS scandal:

Larry Kudlow: “…must find out exactly what happened and who was involved, and then come up with a fix so it never happens again.”

Steven Rattner: “…the matter needs to be fully investigated, those responsible need to be held accountable and procedures need to be put in place to ensure that nothing like this can happen again.”

However, abuse of IRS power has been going on for almost 80 years. It began under FDR, not long after the IRS was created. In reality, there is only one way to ensure that something like this never happens again. The IRS must be abolished, the 16th Amendment must be repealed, and most existing federal taxes must be replaced by the FairTax, which is a national retail sales tax.

Stepping back for a moment, it is striking that so many government employees could participate in an unlawful attack on conservative organizations and political donors and not realize that they were doing something wrong. Indeed, some of the accounts of the bureaucratic hoops that organizations with conservative-sounding names (but not ones with liberal-sounding names) were forced to jump through in order to get 501(c)4 status sound almost gleeful. (“Hey, I’ve got an idea. Let’s make them send us copies of their Facebook posts!”)

Striking? Yes. Surprising? No. Certainly, what transpired at the IRS would not have surprised James Madison.

The IRS is one of the two great instrumentalities of progressivism (the other is the Federal Reserve). Progressivism holds that, when they wrote the U.S. Constitution, James Madison and the other Founders basically got it wrong. Control over the lives of ordinary Americans should not be vested in the people themselves,

Yep. Time to do away with the IRS.

This would be a good start to the reduction of government.

Abolish the income tax
Abolish the IRS
Prohibit gov’t employee unions

A lot of problems would be fixed, nearly immediately.

Representative Apportionment would be a better solution. Tax the states for their portion of the tax revenue - not individuals.

THE FAIR TAX WOULD BE THE BIGGEST TRANSFER OF POWER FROM DC BACK TO THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY’S HISTORY

A flat tax is still an income tax, and would leave the IRS in place.

It punishes productivity, and fails to capture any revenue from the illegal aliens and illegal activities like drugs and prostitution because most of them don’t report their income, but they buy stuff, so with the Fair Tax, they would start paying their share.

The IRS tried to take out the Tea Party, it would be sweet vengeance for the Tea Party to take out the IRS.

Rep Mike Kelly did a good job in the hearing, of explaining how the IRS terrorizes Americans with the threat and expense of an audit.

Say no to terrorism - abolish the IRS.

Every discussion should point out that now is the time for the Fair Tax!!

Prohibit gov’t employee unions

How come non-profit government employee unions can be involved in poltics but religious and educational non-profits cannot?

The same could be said for all unions. I don’t understand why it’s okay for some non-profits to be involved in politics while others cannot.

If demos lost unions, they lose a major source of funding.

Agree... it is time for congress to completely eliminate income taxes. To completely eliminate the IRS. To establish consumption taxes and remove the real threat to our cherished freedoms. The IRS has to go.

Unions are a great illustration of leftism in general.

There was a recent news item where the residents of Detroit were voluntarily donating police vehicles for the city to use, and some of the libs were outraged. They were outraged because the funding was given voluntarily instead of being confiscated by the government.

Unions confiscate part of the workers’ wages in order to fund “what’s best for them”. Very leftist attitude there.

The FairTax is a national sales tax that treats every person equally and allows American businesses to thrive, while generating the same tax revenue as the current four-million-word-plus word tax code. Under the FairTax, every person living in the United States pays a sales tax on purchases of new goods and services, excluding necessities due to the prebate. The FairTax rate after necessities is 23% and equal to the lowest current income tax bracket (15%) combined with employee payroll taxes (7.65%), both of which will be eliminated.

And the IRS is abolished when the 16th Amendment is eliminated. So we will not end up with a VAT tax + an income tax.

I prefer just to do away with any taxes on income, property, or sales. Federal is out of control. Welfare is stealing from one to give to another, taxation without representation.

I agree too, but it’s not gonna happen. Not voluntarily. It will happen when the Phoenix rises from the ashes.

Problem is, there are a LOT of Americans, many of which are highly paid, who depend on our tax code for their living. Attorneys, CPA’s, accountants, etc.

The only way this is happening is if it is part of the great reset.

We need a FLAT TAX!! Not the so-called “fair tax” (which isn't)

It is libtard double-speak.

It hides the real rate (nearly 30%) by using the deceptive “tax-inclusive” rate, rather than what you normally think of when you calculate sales tax at the store.

“Fair-tax” proponents are FANATIC in their attempts to defend this, saying its how its done for other things.

But if something costs %100 and the “tax-inclusive” rate is 23% (!!!) what is the final price? No, it is not $123. It is somewhere around $128.

“But wait” you say- that would be a 28% tax!! (!!!) - Yes, it would, unless you calculate it using the tax-inclusive method, which means the tax is 23% of the final price WITH the taxes included.

Check and you will see that $28 is about 23% of $128. See how STUPID that is?

Next is the ‘prebate’ which is a direct cash payment made to people who earn under a certain amount. Libtards will be wetting themselves trying to offer the highest ‘prebate’ every election cycle.

And the poor people who qualify will get several thousand dollars every tax season and blow it on fglat-screen TV’s and beer and then need a handout for the rest of the year- or, a bigger ‘prebate’.

So, flat-tax is the way to go, 10% across the board and EVERYONE pays. The tax form is two lines:
1) How much did you make
2) Send us 10% of that

AND!!! I would suggest we make it PAY ON DEMAND (not pay every paycheck) that way people will have to write a check and BE PISSED that the government is wasting so dam much money on ‘diversity programs’

Last but not least, the Government HAS TO live within those means. No more tax as much as they want to spend

(I bet this is how they do it in Heaven)

The ONLY way I would support a “fair tax” (a sales tax on consumption) would be if it were reasonable (say 10%), not calculated using the deceptive “tax-inclusive” rate, and NO PREBATES!!!!!!

The problem is that it would cause double taxation of our citizens’ savings. That money has already been taxed thru the Income Tax and would now be subject to new heavy taxation (23% ?) when used to buy needed goods.

If you don’t think there’s currently 2x, 3x, 4x taxation you’re fooling yourselves.

The problem with a flat tax is few fold 1) You still tax income 2) there are still people who don’t pay and most importantly 3) There is no way out of paying

Fair Tax, minus the pre-bate and keep it under 15%...Base it on consumption and make it a line item on the receipt. Everyone has skin in the game. No favorites, no loopholes and if you don’t want to pay it YOU don’t HAVE to.

You don't have to pay income taxes if you don't want to - just quit working and go on welfare. You can do that more easily than not buying things you need. The flat tax also has no favorites and no loopholes.

The problem with simply repealing the 16th Amendment is that a future Supreme Court could rule that an income tax is not a “direct tax” and could be laid. To be safe, you would need an Amendment affirmatively prohibiting an income tax.
