WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups.
Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd.
Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

“She has not committed any crime or made any misrepresentation but under the circumstances she has no choice but to take this course,” said a letter by Taylor to committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa, R-Calif. The letter, sent Monday, was obtained Tuesday by the Los Angeles Times.
The FBI can offer no such thing. Only a federal district court judge can grant immunity with respect to testimony before a congressional committee and the judge can only grant the request for immunity if 2/3rd of the full committee vote in favor of the request.

Yikes Indeed!! This is large an earlier than hoped for. My thoughts:
1. Make her testify and reap the coverage. Invoking the Fifth is not a legal presumption of guilt, but for the low-information voter and many others, an appearance of guilt.
2. Since the IRS has been shown to be an unreliable moderator of Obamacare, the Republicans should make an unrelenting effort to sever the IRS from Obamacare.
And kudos to Rep. Issa who is one Republican who is doing his job.

Great observation. Libs hate the 1st and 2nd Amendments but the love the 5th. LOL.
Nothing will stop it. Pampered Federal employees see it in their own personal interest to harass people who advocate firing boat loads of pampered Federal employees.
The IRS can’t be fixed, it can only be destroyed.
