Skip to comments.Sen. Corker: IRS Mess Will Affect Other Federal Agencies and Programs
Posted on 05/18/2013 11:13:02 AM PDT by Jim Robinson
The fallout from the Internal Revenue Service targeting scandal is going to be felt in many other federal agencies and programs, including Obamacare and immigration reform, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker says.
"This episode is going to have a big effect There are multiple, multiple issues that have to be addressed,'' Corker told "The Steve Malzberg Show'' on Newsmax TV.
"This is a wakeup call for all of those who see our large government and the way people can be coerced
For instance, as we move to immigration reform, just being aware
of judgments that take place within organizations.''

I read the headline story on FoxNews that said the GOP want to “REFORM” the IRS....nope, just get rid of it. We know what happens when these clowns *reform* things.
It better be “felt”...
Rebellion is brewing...
Cong Baca created the non-profit "HOGAR" (Spanish for home) in 2003 to work with the mortgage industry, F/M, lenders, banks and latino community groups to increase mortgage lending to what savvy observers consider to be unqualified Latinos.
"HOGAR" colluded w/ Cong Baca in what was to become a massive bilking of taxpayers. Cong Baca calculatedly hyped the fact that the national Latino homeownership rate was 47%, compared with 68% for the overall population.
HOGAR was coached to call the figure "alarming," and to say "a concerted effort was required to ensure that by the end of the decade Latinos will share equally in the American Dream of home ownership."
HOGAR and Cong Baca conned the public, failing to note that most of the "dreamers" were illegals, citizens of Third World countries who had violated US borders.
Predictably, HOGAR colluded w/ co- conspirators which included:
(a) shaky mortgage companies that ran into big trouble;
(b) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, both now under federal control after billions in taxpayer bailouts;
(c) Countrywide Financial Corp., sold to Bank of America Corp;
(d) Washington Mutual Inc., taken over by the US government and sold to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.; and,
(e) New Century Financial Corp. and Ameriquest Mortgage Corp, both now defunct, killed by defaulted subprime Latino mortgages.
HOGAR's ties to the subprime mortgage industry were substantial. Bribery and self-dealing were rampant:
<><> Companies that donated $150,000 to Cong Baca got the right to have their own research fellow who would conduct fraudulent studies, which were cunningly used by industry lobbyists to pump lending.
<><> Bribery and extortion in the form of $100,000 annual donations to Cong Baca, for which HOGAR provided phony news releases from Cong Baca's Hispanic Caucus promoting a lender's commercial products to the Latino market,
<><> The most shocking example of bribery well- substantitated by Hogar's literature..... HOGAR announced it worked with Freddie Mac on a self-serving two-year examination of Latino homeownership in 63 congressional districts.
The "study" found Hispanic ownership on the rise thanks to "new flexible mortgage loan products" that the industry was adopting at the urging of Cong Baca's collusive coterie.
<><> HOGAR conned lenders into even more lenient down-payment and underwriting standards.
<><> As the subprime debacle unfolded, HOGAR declined repeated requests for comment despite the economic havoc their activities precipitated.
The mortgage schemes demonstrated the criminal activities of border violators with multiple identities---perhaps violent, terrorist-connected foreigners---colluding and conspiring to defraud private companies and passive govt entities. And mortgage racketeering enterprises which employed sub rosa finance and business practices to carry out deceptions and frauds.
The alleged ring of swindlers---a Congresman, individuals with multiple identities, banks, insurance companies, mortgage brokers--might be charged with cheating the US govt, taxpayers and bank share holders out of hundreds of millions of dollars via an elaborate web of mortgage and bank frauds.
The mortgage dreamers used multiple phony identities, fraudulent Social Security numbers, purchased from identity forgers in order to obtain govt-subsidized benefits.
L/E will find that individuals with multiple identities obtained fraudulent mortgages then flipped the houses at ever-higher prices to family member who then absconded to foreign countries, sticking banks (and taxpayers) with hundreds of millions in fraudulent mortgages.
BACKGROUND A Wall Street Journal investigative report related that, according to the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council examination of the borrowing spree, uncovered financial schemes by low-income non-prpofit housing groups, Hispanic lawmakers, the tax-funded Congressional Hispanic housing initiative, mortgage lenders and brokers, all colluding in fraduent schemes to increase homeownership among Latinos using forged documents which enabled massive fraud.
This was not simply the mortgage market at work. It was fueled by avarice, greed, and the tax-funded Congressional apparatus enabling fraudulent practices. In 2005 alone, mortgages to Hispanics jumped by 29%; Latinos with multiple fraudulent identities in low-paying jobs obtained subprime mortgages for prime properties---soaring to 169%.

Social Security Administration ALSO has the power to approve or deny claims. Investigate THEM too. No doubt they’ve screwed registered Republicans for years. But welfare checks for illegal aliens? NO PROBLEM!
Yes. Stop treating us like your slaves and maybe we’ll respect government agencies again.
So Jim, does this mean that Corker is going to quit trying to be “Marxist Lite?”
Or is he just grandstanding for “the folks?” I guess only time will tell, but we have no time! I won’t believe anything has changed until the impeachment starts.
Keep up your good work, The nation is a whole lot better off for the existence of FR!
Since the non-profits were being formed during an election year, and involved position based opinions, were any election laws violated by the IRS?? Seems like a fair question to ask. Any attorneys with knowledge of election law?
ALL OF THEM!!!!!.......
I feel that it is about to boil over. Be prepared to do some serious cooking.
If our side had the fighting spirit of the Democrat/Communists, they would be able to use the revelations of the last 10 days to flip the Senate to our side next year. And to increase our House margin by an additional 40 seats.
Wishful thinking, I know.
so why didn't he say "if"?
First time in quite a while I recall something worth quoting out of the mouth of Sen. Corker.
But what exactly is his version of "immigration reform"?
For many of us, we are already seeing similar behaviour in other departments. Many in the company I work for do cross-border work (Canada and the US) and as such, have made application for what are referred to as NEXUS cards.. for lack of a better explanation, this is frequent traveller card that somewhat pre-clears you to travel freely across the border without getting tied up in the usual Customs and Excise rigmarole. I cant tell you how many people have had NEXUS refusals for absolutely no justification at all .. I think it basically comes down to those with the power exercising that power to decide who gets it and who doesnt. Who knows what information they have looked at to make that decision and by this, Im referring to information that is totally unrelated to security issues? If others here have had a similar experience, I would like to hear about it.
The Senate is a cesspit of unconscionably bad ideas.
WOW ! That
material needs its own thread!
First amendment violations?
Good, I hope they all fail. Nothing but a bunch of worthless sorry assed government lackeys anyway.
what exactly is his version of “immigration reform”?
For years Corker has pushed hard for full blown AMNESTY for all of the illegal aliens ...
In the past he has maligned anyone calling his office to ask him to vote against...
How dare we...etc
“now, as we move toward immigration reform,”
Hes a golfing buddy of Obama...He thinks AMNESTY is in the golf bag...no sand traps ahead...
“First time in quite a while I recall something worth quoting out of the mouth of Sen. Corker.”
The problem is with most of the RINOs (like Corker), they have finally awakened to the stark reality that this $h!t is going to stick to them as well as to the RATs.
This phalanx of scandals is a game changer for all of them, as well it should be. Personally, guys like Corker should be primaried, but the GOPe will try very hard to discourage this activity because it will mess up the order in the club, which is always more important than doing anything positive for the country as a whole.
This phalanx of scandals is a game changer for all of them, as well it should be.
Wish I was as optimistic as you seem to be. Remember that the next congressional is still a year and a half away. The GOP will need a lot of persistence to keep these scandals, and the issues that arise from them, alive until then. They haven't shown much of it collectively in recent years, unfortunately.
“Wish I was as optimistic as you seem to be. “
I am not optimistic. I was just pointing out the mechanism that provoked Corker (or at least a possible mechanism). The Tea Party needs to run effective primary challengers against all of these rotten bastards in the GOP. At the minimum, it will force them to campaign, and in so doing let us know more about them (which might just result in their loosing their elections).
I was afraid that was where he's at. Quite foolish for a Republican to push for full blown amnesty for illegals, unless he wants to be voted out of office by swarms of them.
Unless we abolish taxation (to dream the impossible dream), there will always be an IRS. Or something like it. Somebody has to collect the taxes and somebody has to check to see if I’m a tax cheat. But it should be a much smaller organization with smaller powers and a LOT more transparency. And the tax code should be vastly simplified (3 pages, maximum).
The IRS has a 40 year history of abuse. It can never, ever be trusted with more, or even the same power,
Actually, the abuse of the IRS by the ruling administration for political purposes goes back to the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration in the 1930s, where a few of Roosevelt's rich and well-known Republican political adversaries were prosecuted on dubious tax charges. That would have been about 75 to 80 years ago.
At the same time, Roosevelt himself pretty much paid whatever amount of income tax he wished, according to a copy of a letter I have seen written by him and addressed to his appointed IRS commissioner.
From now on, any time any liberal or moderate advocates any form of government expansion in the name of sentimentalism, we answer, "Oh, more government power - just like the IRS."
bomb shell 0 released irs to take eyes off bengazi.........
the deaf ear to his state finally wakes up? I know he is a tad better than Lamar, but even he is tone deaf. Our primaries are set up in such a way that when 2 conservatives run against a moderate, the moderate will always win, thus corker and halsam. Neither conservative would back down, not even the one with the worst polling numbers. Who should have stepped down and thrown his/her weight to the leader, and we would have had conservatives in these positions. I only hope lamar retires this year, other wise another 6 years of the doddering old 70+ year old fool moderate to willing to cross the isle, like corker, money and power before the people and Constitution. Both have made themselves extremely wealthy up there.
he like lamar will turn coat on illegal invaders, I refuse to call them immigrants, I know what a true immigrant is, I am the daughter of one. It isn’t the free loaders taking our jobs and all our medical assistance and food stamps and sending their under the table money back home to mexico.
The opportunistic pols all seem to be trying to outdo themselves in expressing outrage over this......to assuage the voters back home.
He needs to be told “you know what you can do w/ Obama’s immigration reform administered by the IRS.”
