I may be a “God, Guns & Guts” person, but I’m smart enough to know that the only reason Luke Russert is on TV is because he’s Tim Russert’s son.
Little dweeb who’s never accomplished anything in his entirely life, making a living riding the coattails of his dearly departed daddy.

Actually, though he phrased it stupidly, he actually had a point. Unlike most House committees, only two, Ways & Means, and Appropriations, are regarded as both so incredibly complicated and powerful, that when congressmen get a seat on them, they cannot sit on any other committees.
As far as the “complicated” part goes, this is an understatement. Ways & Means is entirely in charge of US taxation, and you almost have to be an accountant or other financial expert to be able to function on it.
And it is an utterly ruthless committee as well, because congressmen who sit on it would be bombarded by lobbyists unless they were under extremely strict rules.
While what he calls the “God, guns and guts people” not only rarely get on W&M, *they don’t want to*. These are congressmen who deeply care about American civil rights, the constitution, the respect for institutions like religion, American traditions, etc.
They want to be on the other congressional committees because that is where they can be effective. For them, that is where the action is. Being put on W&M would be like having to sit through an economics lecture on a subject they know little about, for six months.
However, this being said, those Republicans on W&M should not be thought of as “softies”, because any IRS employee who tries to do a song and dance routine in front of them faces a strong likelihood of ending up in a federal minimum security penitentiary for ten years.
And they are not only in a foul mood, but they “smell blood in the water”. They don’t get much entertainment, so when the opportunity strikes for them to punish evildoers, they go at it with gusto.
There are many libs who are libs because “all the smart people believe this way”.
Of course, they leave out the idea that the “smart people” are self-defined as “smart”... S M R T! Smart!

Arrogance is the handmaiden of ignorance. They are rarely apart. Where you find one you will find the other in full flame.
God, guts and guns is a great descriptive. In their presence the arrogance of ignorance is silenced.
Is stupidity genetic.. apparently so.
