(Reuters) - Prospects for passage of a major immigration bill improved on Thursday when a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives declared they had reached a tentative deal, resolving disputes that had threatened to torpedo negotiations.
The breakthrough came at the end of a two-hour private meeting of seven Republican and Democratic negotiators. The eighth negotiator in this so-called House Gang of Eight was unavailable after undergoing surgery on Wednesday.
The final sticking point, according to congressional sources, was over whether illegal immigrants now in the United States who gain legal status under the bill could participate in the new healthcare law known as "Obamacare," which Republicans want to repeal.
None of the negotiators would comment on how the matter was resolved. Nor would they provide other details of the deal.
Even with Thursday's breakthrough, the drive to enact a comprehensive immigration bill, which is President Barack Obama's top legislative priority, faces a long, difficult road in Congress.
The agreement still must be drafted into legislation for review by the 435 members of the House. Then it faces a potentially tough battle in the House Judiciary Committee, where several conservative Republicans have been dead-set against a comprehensive bill. Instead, they mostly want to pass tougher border security measures and allow U.S. companies to get better access to foreign high-tech workers.

They haven’t reached a deal with me or millions of other legal American citizens.
How many times will our own sell us out? Are there any real men of character left in Washington, DC?
Yeah ... phuque the Republic ... save the negotiations.
They aren’t “ours”
Any way you slice it, when it's "Comprehensive Reform", that's the code words for FULL-BLOWN AMNESTY AND HANDOUTS GALORE to NEW DEMOCRAT VOTERS, and appeasing business donors to the DNC who rely on the cheap wetback labor. In addition, all the mules the drug runners use are gonna now be "U.S. Citizens", without ANY punishment whatsoever for LAW-BREAKING that got them into our former great Country.
This bullshit of rewarding law-breakers has now become the norm in America, starting with the inner-city tribal parasites, including Treasonous Lawmakers who are NEVER personally prosecuted for Crimes, etc.
Lock 'n load, America (those who still value Freedom and believe in the Constitution AS INTENDED AND AS WRITTEN).
A clear, unmistakable message must be sent to every member of the House: If you give this sovereignty-destroying bill one ounce of support, we are going to defeat you.
Illegals are scofflaws, individuals with primitive survival instincts honed in corrupt Third World hellholes where laws are ignored, and everything is for sale. Hellholes where they take what they want.....as Puerto Rican Ariel Castro did---over and over.
To these individuals---its all about "what's in it for me, how do I get it, and who do I payoff?"
"Immigrations reform" imposes on American culture---- the primitive survivalist instincts of criminal illegals like Ariel Castro.
So while we have the 3 scandals in the news every day our republican leaders are set to slide one to us.
Yep, them dems will be in power for the rest of my life and my child's life.
Boner doesn't give a spit.
All legislation should stop until these scandals are resolved.
There shoulld be NO IMMIGRATION REFORM until the BORDER IS SECURE. The Republicans in the House AND the Senate should not negotiate in any way until the BORDER IS SECURED. Then they could START talking.
Ariel Castro was a citizen by birth not an illegal alien.
"I'm directing Sen Schumer to rename immigration reform:
'The Ariel Castro Respect and Dignity for Latinos Bill.'"
"The IRS will enforce all phases of the bill."
"A separate amendment---'The Tamarlan Tsarneav Memorial
Amendment'---will provide government-issue pressure cookers,
fireworks, and jars of vaseline for tormented Chechneyan
immigrants seeking "asylum" from govt persecution."
Now the IRS liberal congress will might pass Amnesty
the 2012 election should be invalidated
This has nothing to do with immigration...
these are not immigrants...
They are ILLEGAL ALIENS...
They are CRIMINALS...
Yes of course I dont call them illegal immigrants...
To call them immigrants is offensive to me a REAL immigrant...
Wheres the dignity and respect for me, Joe ???
Eh, Rubio ???
It IS “unfair to the people who have done it the right way”
How on Earth could it not be ???
Its a slap in the face...
The illegal aliens and their enablers like Rubio and Biden are spitting in the faces of the REAL immigrants...
I listened to Issa last night and it sounded as if he was starting to give the administration some cover on these 2 scandals, hope I am wrong.
