Rand Paul, Bachmann: IRS could play politics with Obamacare oversight

On Thursday morning, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann questioned whether Internal Revenue Service could be trusted to oversee implementation of the health care law, suggesting it could inappropriately use records to deny people health care.

Paul and Bachmann made the comments at a press conference with several members of Congress and members of tea party groups from across the country,

“With the implementation of Obamacare at hand, and knowing that it is the IRS … that will be the enforcing mechanism for this new entitlement program of Obamacare, it’s very important to ask, and now it is reasonable to ask, could there potential be political implications regarding health care – access to health care, denial of health care,” Bachmann said.

“Will that happen based on a person’s political position or their religiously held beliefs?” she asked.

“These questions would have been considered out of bounds a week ago,” she went on. “Today, these questions are considered more than reasonable and more than fair to the American people.”

Paul, himself a doctor, said he was “quite worried about the privacy of medical records.”

“I’m quite worried that your medical records now will be evaluated by the IRS,” which he said has no shown itself to have both the “ability” and the “penchant” to seek out and target political opponents.

Its pretty obvious that the IRS has become a domestic spy agency.

There is no “Health” in the IRS charter. They have no business being involved in healthcare.

Honest to God, I will refuse to file next year if there are questions on tax forms asking me for insurance info.

Dozens of democrats from both the Senate and House demanded this of the IRS. This scandal isn’t just an indictment of the current IRS, it is a testament to the anti-American goals of the liberal ideology in general. Every single damn democrat who signed those letters to the IRS needs to be run out of office.

Sorry Mr. Rightwinger, we seem to have determined that you underpaid your taxes 20 years ago. You will need to have that corrected before we can stop the bleeding.

In the light of recent political scandals, this is the one development which could gain some traction. 40% of Americans don’t even know that Obamacare is the law, and that the IRS is the agency to enforce it. It is the weakest link in the zer0bama administration.

It certainly doesn’t help that Sarah Ingram, who was in charge of the non-profit section when all the bad stuff was going on, has not been promoted to head the nobamacare enforcement section.

"Paul, himself a doctor, said he was “quite worried about the privacy of medical records.”

Most people have no idea that the funding for electronic medical records was funded in the first stimulus - to the tune of $44 billion. I was dumbfounded why this was embedded in the stimulus package since there were NO laws to regulate the conversion to a national health record platform. Then... much later - ObaMaCare was foisted on us.

First, fund the infrastructure without the proper laws to regulate, then ram through complete takeover of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness via ObaMaCare....

That was my thought too - very very very weak statement. Disappointing actually. This is a situation that calls for outrage, not political speak speculation.
