Two Moms vs. Common Core
National Review ^ | 05/12/13 | Maggie Gallagher

A great deal has been written and spoken about Common Core, but it is worth rehearsing the outlines again. Common Core is a set of math and English standards developed largely with Gates Foundation money and pushed by the Obama administration and the National Governors Association. The standards define what every schoolchild should learn each year, from first grade through twelfth, and the package includes teacher evaluations tied to federally funded tests designed to ensure that schools teach to Common Core.

How many changes in methods of teaching has there been within the last fifty years?

At least she managed to move her son from a school that spoke only Spanish for half the day.

Interesting. Is this a public school?

Personally, I would be more than happy if schools began teaching Spanish from K or Gr 1. For one, children learn languages much easier at an earlier age. We can hate it all we want, but the reality is, speaking Spanish will be an expected (and paid for) skill for today's elementary school student.

to those who want them? or force them all?

Because the government schools would rather force Arabic on them and Islam

Does anybody have pictures of Bill Ayres and Gill Gates together? You have got to shame them. We all know that Ayres has no shame but Bill Gates has alot to lose as far as the respect of the nation.

For myself, I’m more concerned my kids be able to communicate in Spanish than Arabic. If you have demographic trends to the contrary, I’m open to hearing them.

I was saying let the family choose what language to learn, some want to learn French or Korean. I don’t think government should force it on anyone.

I don't know. I've only been teaching for about 10.

And the nuns I had in school ... well, it's like Fight Club ...

A local district should have the final say, but IMO, Spanish should be compulsory, or at the very least, offered as an alternative to P.E., art or music.

I’ll point out that Governor Palin knew to reject what the GOPe/RINOs’ Ivy League and law school-educated, dream candidate for 2012 (Mitch Daniels) and the vast majority of governors didn’t know enough to reject: the Common Core standards and Obama’s “Race to the Top” federal dollars.

Of course, the GOPe/RINOs’ dream candidates for 2016, such as Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, were big proponents of it as well.
